The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 not only was #1 at the box office this weekend, but the film had the biggest opening in the US for 2014.
I’ll admit that I was one of the salty individuals when I found out that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay would be split into 2 films. I didn’t feel it was necessary, but as I sat through The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 enthralled by Francis Lawrence direction, the stellar acting of the cast, amazed by the visual special effects, costumes, and make-up, and was moved to tears by the films’ score, my bitterness that the final book was split into two movies was lessened.
I truly enjoyed Mockingjay Part 1 and I can’t wait to sit down with friends to have a full-on gab fest about the film and admit that we were a part of the reason why The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 brought in $123 million in its opening weekend. Yes, this figure is down from the previous two installments in The Hunger Games film franchise that brought in over $150 million in their opening weekends. Regardless, the $123 million opening is the highest opening for a film for 2014, at the moment. Higher than that of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy opening figure of $94 million. And I do believe that the film will continue to have high grosses as the film reach expands to more theaters across the world.
If you haven’t had a chance to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 I recommend that you do and in the interim between your first viewing and your next, enjoy the film’s Rebel and Citizen posters:
