Let’s take a look at the new animated character portraits posters for The Divergent Series: Insurgent and meet the actors portraying Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior, Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton, Jeanine Matthews, Evelyn Johnson-Eaton, and Johanna Reyes.
I work for a little publishing company in New York City and to see the process of a book-to-film adaptation is fascinating. Watching teams develop promotional and marketing materials, art work, and social media campaigns for a book, now film can get anyone’s creative juices flowing. However, nothing has inspired and impressed me more than Lionsgate/Summit genius when it comes to the promotional materials for upcoming release of The Divergent Series: Insurgent starring Shailene Woodley as Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior and Theo James as Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton.
When it was announced that The Divergent Series: Insurgent would also be released in 3D, Lionsgate/Summit brilliantly rolled-out EIGHT interactive 3D posters beginning at 11 AM (ET) on October 28, 2014.

Those interactive 3D posters were fun to see but more importantly, masterfully creative. Now, Lionsgate/Summit has done it again and now we’ve been blessed with FIVE NEW animated character portrait posters for Tris, Four, Jeanine Matthews, Evelyn Johnson-Eaton, and Johanna Reyes. These animated posters have the same impressive special effects fond in the film Insurgent.
These gorgeous portraits feature Shailene Woodley (Tris), Theo James (Four), Naomi Watts (Evelyn), and Academy Award winners Kate Winslet (Jeanine) and Octavia Spencer (Johanna).
Now let’s get to the know a little about the actors behind the characters of Tris, Four, Jeanine, Evelyn, and Johanna.
Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior, Abnegation born Dauntless transfer, is portrayed by 2012 Golden Globe nominee for The Descendants (2011) actress Shailene Woodley. Shailene became endeared to many of hearts in her portrayal of Amy Juergens in The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008). On top of her other roles, she has gone on to play another book-to-film favorite Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars (2014).
Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton, another Abnegation born Dauntless transfer, is portrayed by actor Theo James. Many fell in love with Theo when he portrayed Jed Harper on TV Horror series Bedlam (2011), but became known to many from his roles as David in Underworld: Awakening (2012) and as Detective Walter Clark in American cop-drama TV series Golden Boy (2013).
Jeanine Matthews, Erudite born and chosen and leader of the faction, is portrayed by Academy Award winner for The Reader (2008) actress Kate Winslet. Kate was acting a few years before she became a household name due to her role as Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic (1997). She’s has and will continue to have a long and lustrous acting career that includes 5 more Academy Award nominations on top of her 2009 win for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.
Evelyn Johnson-Eaton the factionless leader, Erudite born Abnegation chosen, and the mother of Four is portrayed by two-time Academy Award nominee (Lo imposible/The Impossible (2012) and 21 Grams (2003)) actress Naomi Watts. A few were upset with the casting of her as Evelyn, but no one can deny the acting pedigree of Naomi. She has played iconic roles like Ann Darrow in King Kong (2003) and Betty Elms/Diane Selwyn in Mulholland Drive (2001).
Johanna Reyes, Candor born, later Amity transfer and now Amity representative is portrayed by Academy Award winner for The Help (2011) actress Octavia Spencer. Octavia has had an amazing career as TV, film, and voice actor for almost two decades. She appeared in romance comedy favorites as Never Been Kissed (1999), to TV series faves Mom (2013), to international theatrical hits as Snowpiercer (2013).
