Listen to two songs from the upcoming Outlander Original Television Soundtrack, Vol. 1. The album will be available on CD and digitally starting February 10, 2015.
Many of us are getting ready for February’s “4Droughtlander” tomorrow, especially with the Jamie/Claire photo sneak peek that Outlander‘s official twitter tweeted earlier today! However, there’s no such thing as having too many Outlander goodies, so I’m excited to share an additional treat from the Outlander official TV soundtrack.
As we reported last month, the Outlander Original Television Soundtrack, Vol. 1. will be available starting February 10 and includes music from the first eight episodes of season 1.
Well thanks to Yahoo TV and People Magazine exclusives, we can now preview TWO tracks from the upcoming album.
The first song, “Castle Leoch” is the fifth on the album and was created by composer Bear McCreary. According to the interview with Yahoo TV, Bear says:
“Besides the main title, ‘Castle Leoch’ marks the first time I incorporated traditional folk music directly into the narrative score…The track opens with a heartfelt rendition of ‘Loch Lomond’ and transitions to a viola da gamba playing ‘Bonny Katherine Ogie.’ [It is] arranged with a distinctly regal style to capture the feeling of Colum’s court. I felt these tunes, songs that people of this era actually knew and sang, helped ground the story authentically.”
People Magazine also shared a second song, called “The Woman of Balnain.” This song is featured at the end of episode 3, “The Way Out,” when Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) are in the main hall at Castle Leoch listening to a bard perform. Bear told People:
“It was actually the first piece of music I ever composed for the series…This song tells the story of a woman who traveled mysteriously through standing stones, just as Claire experienced…This revelation gives Claire her first glimpse of hope that she might find a way home.”
Both of these songs sound so authentic and place me right back in the show. I’m even more excited for Outlander to return in April so we can see what other music Bear has in store for us! What do you think about the preview?
