We lost Beth, will we lose someone again soon? Get a sneak peek into The Walking Dead season 5 mid-season premiere airing tonight on AMC at 9 PM (ET/PT).
During The Walking Dead season 5 mid-season finale, “Coda,” Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Tyrese Williams (Chad L. Coleman), and Sasha Williams (Sonequa Martin-Green) along with Noah (Tyler James Williams) went up against Officer Dawn Lerner (Christine Woods) and her crew to rescue Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). It appeared that Rick was going to be able to successfully implement the trade for Beth and Carol to give Dawn back her captured officers. And since fans of The Walking Dead can’t have nice things, Beth was murdered. Watching Beth be courageous and take a stand against Dawn but lose her life in the end, had me bawling like a hungry new-born baby. Me, the person with the cold heart lost her mind as I watched Daryl carry Beth out the hospital.
Meanwhile, Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam) continues to be a nuance and escapes the church compound only to bring walkers back to the church chomping at his heels. This (sheer) act (of stupidity) forces Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) to open the church doors to rescue him, which forced them all the leave the secured facility with Judith Grimes (Adelaide and Eliza Cornwell) in tow. Even though it looked hopeless for Michonne and Carl, helpers came in the form of Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan), Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), Rosita Espinoza (Christian Serratos), and Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson). (An unconscious Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) was also there.) Now two-thirds’ of the gang are back together, so it only made sense for them to go and find Rick and the rest of the crew in Atlanta. They do exactly that, only to come upon Daryl carrying Beth’s corpse out of the hospital. Seeing the reunion was extremely bittersweet because the weight of losing Beth was so heavy within the scene. ALL THE FEELS were felt among the majority of us watching. However, a bit of hope resulted in the closing scene of The Walking Dead season 5 mid-season finale, “Coda,” when we see Morgan Jones (Lennie James) at Father Gabriel’s abandoned church coming to realization that Rick and his friends are still alive.
