Tonight we discover Liv’s mystery buyer! Preview Scandal “No More Blood” with video sneak peeks. The episode airs during TGiT at 9:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
I’ll be honest with you: at the beginning of last week’s Scandal (“Gladiators Don’t Run“), I was feeling cautiously optimistic. Liv (Kerry Washington) had convinced Ian (Jason Butler Harner) to abandon VP Nichols’ (Jon Tenney) hostage plans to sell her on the open market. Ian and his tech team were setting up the internet auction…he’d even agreed to allow Liv to choose her buyers in the end, as long as they breached $1 billion, which was likely. The White House was able to get in on bidding as the auction commenced, and the numbers were going up, up, up. Then things took a turn for the worst when Crazy Gus (who I honestly just thought was a minor character/sidekick) shot Ian in the head and assumed leadership over the whole operation. Gus (Chad Donella) was angry and creepily turned on by the idea of using Liv to fulfill all sorts of monetary and physical needs.
Even with that development, I was still OK. The White House was still bidding, and with help from Mama Pope (in exchange for TV access, LOL) and Huck’s B613 assassination/hacking skills, the Gladiators were also able to get into the auction. Huck (Guillermo Diaz) revealed that he was secretly a billionaire after pocketing the funds B613 used to siphon from other federal agencies (call it reparations). But he was ready to use all the money at his disposal to win Liv. In fact, for Huck, there was no other alternative—either OPA or the White House won, or Liv was guaranteed dead.
However, all hell broke loose when Gus cut the auction short and announced that he’d made a side-deal with Iran. The episode ended with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) lambasting his advisors, who would rather have killed Liv than see her handed over to U.S. enemies, and Liv being presented to her buyer…who was still a mystery to us.
So, a few questions:
1. Who in the world is Liv’s mystery buyer??? My first instinct is to say Papa Pope (Joe Morton)! Ever since Scandal returned from hiatus, he’s been MIA. But I find it incredibly hard to believe that Rowan doesn’t know what’s happening with Liv and that he’d let the beautiful and brilliant daughter he made be sold off to the highest bidder by a sociopath! However, as I typed this, I received a text message from a friend who suggested that maybe Mellie (Bellamy Young) was the mystery buyer. She could have bought Liv to ensure Fitz’s happiness and loyalty, especially now that we know she wants to be president. Or it could even be Mama Pope (Khandi Alexander) and her associates. In any event, I seriously doubt the Iranians are involved OR that Gus will be breathing much longer.
2. When Liv eventually makes it back to her real life, what will be do? Will she be able to get back into the groove of handing things at OPA, planning for Vermont with Fitz, and standing in the sun with Jake (Scott Foley)?
3. What’s going to happen to Nichols? I guess Fitz won’t fire him for Mellie’s sake and to prevent another scandal, but Nichols just can’t be free to stroll about the White House wreaking havoc and turning people against the administration.
Thoughts?
In tonight’s episode, “No More Blood,” written by Heather Mitchell, directed by Randy Zisk, and guest-starring Portia De Rossi (Elizabeth “Lizzie” North), Jon Tenney, and Khandi Alexander: As the bidding for Olivia Pope continues, the gladiators fight to save her but The White House fears that they may lose her for good. (via ABC)
This week, ABC is being pretty secretive with promotional images from the upcoming show, but thankfully we one sneak peek clip to share! The video begins with Abby (Darby Stanchfield) looking on as Fitz, Mellie, Jake, Cyrus (Jeff Perry), and other presidential advisers come out of the Oval Office smiling and looking encouraged. Abbie asks Cyrus to clue her in on developments, alas, he falls back on the fact that Liv’s kidnapping and plans to rescue her are classified:
Goodness, I really feel so bad for Abbie! Not only has she been marginalized by Huck and Quinn (since she’s no longer an OPA gladiator; Katie Lowes), but also the White House and even David Rosen (Joshua Malina) don’t give her much consideration.
Well tonight, hopefully within the first 2 minutes, we’ll find out who Liv’s mystery buyer is…fingers crossed that it’s a positive development!
