Tonight we finally discover who really killed Lila! Preview How to Get Away with Murder‘s two hour season one finale, starting tonight at 9:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
In last week’s How to Get Away with Murder (“Mama’s Here Now“), Mama Ophelia Hartness (played by the the illustrious Cicely Tyson) came to town and brought with her some pretty big revelations about Annalise’s (Viola Davis) past, including her relationship with Sam.
The episode began with Annalise still in a pretty big depression about throwing Nate (Billy Brown) under the bus for Sam’s (Tom Verica) murder. Mama Ophelia arrived to find Annalise bed-ridden, husbandless, boy-friend less, and in need of some serious help. In the midst of Mama Ophelia trying to clean house, we found out several things about Annalise’s youth. First, we learned that her birthl name was Anna-Mae. We also found out that her Uncle Clyde sexually abused her as a child, and Annalise still carried that pain with her. In fact, that was how she met Sam…he was her therapist. It seemed that Annalise blamed her mother for not protecting her…however, in an extremely vulnerable moment, Annalise sitting while her mother combed her hair, Mama Ophelia made a confession. All those years ago, she knew what her brother did to Annalise. And one night, while Clyde was drunk with a cigarette in his mouth, Mama Ophelia essentially set the house of fire and let Clyde die inside. WOW. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do…
Bonnie (Liza Weil) took on the case of the week, defending a nurse (Jolene, guest-star Mageina Tovah) who was accused of raping a patient (Chad, guest-star Chris Kos). From the beginning, Bonnie struggled in court—from asking the jury to find her client guilty in the opening statement (a slip of the tongue), to uncovering that Joelene did have sex with Chad, though she claimed it was consensual. Ultimately, it turned out that Chad and the hospital’s attorney were conspiring one another and using Jolene to get a big settlement from the hospital.
Among the Keating 5: Michaela (Aja Naomi King) was feeling guilt about letting Nate go to jail for something he didn’t do; Connor (Jack Falahee) was celebrating—the threat of jail no longer lingered and Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) was starting to open up to him again; and Wes (Alfred Enoch) was becoming suspicious of Rebecca (Katie Findlay). Rebecca lied to the police about Nate threatening to hurt her if she didn’t help him plant evidence on Sam. At the same time, Wes was already suspicious about Rebecca’s relationship with Rudy Walters. After getting help from Laurel (Karla Souza), Wes found Rudy in a mental hospital, and when they showed Rudy a picture of Rebecca, he said “wet”…like water…in a water tank…which is how Lila (Megan West) died! At the end of the episode, we flashed to Rebecca, who was tracking Wes’ location. SUSPECT.
A couple comments: first, every single scene between Annalise and her mother was sensational. Viola Davis and Cicely Tyson were magnificent together, and really hope this won’t be the list time Mama Ophelia makes an appearance. Second, all season long, we’ve been suspicious of Rebecca. Even when Wes becomes interested in her, I never understood why…instinctually, I don’t trust her, and it seems we may have been right to be so guarded.
In tonight’s TWO-HOUR season 1 finale:
“The Night Lila Died” (Part 1, written by Mike Foley and directed by Laura Innes)
In flashbacks, we start to piece together what really happened the night of Lila’s murder. In present day, Annalise takes on a priest who is accused of murdering another priest. Meanwhile, Connor and Oliver take things to a new level in their relationship, and Wes and Rebecca continue to grow suspicious of each other. (via ABC)
“It’s All My Fault” (Part 2, written by Pete Nowalk and directed by Bill D’Elia)
Wes, Connor, Michaela and Laurel may have dug themselves in too deep a hole for Annalise to save them, and the shocking truth about Lila’s murder is finally revealed. (via ABC)
TWO HOURS and finally, after a season of wondering, we’ll finally find out who really murdered Lila… do you have any guesses? I mean, I’m not really sure that Sam still isn’t guilty!
Take a look at these two sneak peeks from the upcoming show. In the first video, Nate is in court for his bail hearing, and Frank (Charlie Weber) and Bonnie are helping to keep tabs on the developments for Annalise. Nate is denied bail, and it seems Annalise is considering getting directly involved. And in the second, Wes is trying to hide his suspicions from Rebecca…but does she believe him?
Nate suspects that Annalise is involved in his arrest for Sam’s murder, right? I mean, did you see the way be purposefully ignored her in the hallway? And Nate refused to fire his lawyer, even though Annalise asked him to with that note at the end of last week. Thoughts? And you already know how I feel about Rebecca and her shady manipulations!
