To celebrate the release of the Outlander: Season 1, Volume 1, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment/STARZ share SEVEN sneak peeks of the blu-ray bonus content. Watch clips of behind-the-scene interviews with Diana Gabaldon, Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Ron Moore, and more.
As promised, the Outlander: Season 1, Volume 1 DVD/Blu-ray is now available! Do you have your copy in hand? Have you been binge-watching all day? I pre-ordered my Limited Collected Edition copy from Target, and unfortunately, my blu-ray is still in transit. I’ll be waiting until closer to the weekend to have my Season 1A power-watching session. However, if you’re in a similar predicament, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment/STARZ has partnered with several media outlets to help us out!
In the last couple weeks, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have given us previews of some of the bonus content included on the Outlander: Season 1, Volume 1 (HERE and HERE). Well, to celebrate today’s release, we got SEVEN more sneak peeks of the special features from the blu-ray, and watching them makes me very impatient for the UPS delivery man! Check out the videos below:
1. “Why Sam Heughan Was the Perfect Jamie For Outlander” via PopSugar
Diana Gabaldon, Ron Moore, and Maril Davis discuss how they instantly knew Sam Heughan would make a great JAMMF. Sam also talks about the casting process and preparing to audition.
2. “How Caitriona Balfe Nabbed Her Role With One Line” via TVLine (click on the image below)
Ron Moore and Maril Davis talk about the arduous process of finding “Claire,” specifically trying to find an actress to embody the character’s intelligence, stamina, and compelling nature. Cait Balfe also discusses the auditioning process and the specific line that won over the producers.
3. “On Location: Castle Leoch and the Magic of Scotland” via Access Hollywood
Diana Gabaldon, Ron Moore, and Cait Balfe discuss filming on-location in Scotland. While the country is beautiful with so much history right on the surface, production can be quite challenging, especially in remote areas with unforgiving elements.
4. “Why Is Caitriona Balfe Still Intimidated by Claire?” via Entertainment Tonight
Cait Balfe and Sam Heughan talk about the benefits of having Diana Gabaldon on-set as a resource. With that said, they also admit that embodying her characters can be intimidating, especially when considering Outlander is only the start of Claire and Jamie’s journey.
5. “Preview: Looking For A Time and Place” via Sony/STARZ
Diana Gabaldon discusses how a Dr. Who episode inspired her to make 18th Century Scotland the setting for her (then) new novel, Outlander. Sam Heughan and Matthew Roberts (writer/producer) also talk about how a TV series (as opposed to a feature film) was the only option to fully embrace the rich intricacies of Diana’s story and characters.
6. “Deleted Scene: Jamie Tells Claire About the Time He Thought Eating Grass Was a Great Idea” via YahooTV
Taken from Season 1, episode 2 “Castle Leoch,” this deleted scene features an alternate take on Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) impromptu picnic and doctor’s checkup. Jamie tells Claire about his cattle raiding days and she is quite shocked by the tale.
7. “Preview: Emerging a Scot—Cast Goes to Boot Camp” via YahooTV
Ron Moore, Sam Heughan, Stephen Walters (Angus), and Grant O’Rourke (Rupert) discuss stunt work on the show, the process of filming fight scenes (of which there are many), and developing a particular fighting style of Jamie.
There are so many behind-the-scenes features and this is really only the tip of the iceberg! I’ll likely start with all the bonus content when my blu-ray arrives.
