If Priyanka Chopra is new to you, get ready to add the international superstar to your list of favorites.
Many moons ago, I was an avid pageant viewer. I enjoyed all the, well, pageantry of it all. Individuals from all walks of life would showcase not only their talents from impressive operatic arias to juggling, but discuss how they would like to make a positive impact in our world. I adored pageants, and that is how I was introduced to Priyanka Chopra.
In 2000, Priyanka Chopra was crowned Miss World. This award was the beginning of Priyanka’s rise to fame. Within a year of fulfilling her Miss World duties, she went on to star in her first film, Thamizhan in 2002. From this point on Priyanka Chopra has had variety of roles and success in the international film industry, and today she is one of the most popular and highest paid Bollywood actresses. I foresee the same happening in North America, as Ms. Chopra is introduced to many here due to her lead role as FBI recruit Alex Parrish, in the ABC Network drama series Quantico. This new show premieres on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 10/9c. Just take a look at Priyanka in action in the trailer for the series.
If Priyanka Chopra’s acting chops wasn’t enough to solidify her as your next fave, her singing will surely help in the quest. American Football fans might have heard of Priyanka with her 2012 single “In My City” featuring will.i.am, that was highlighted on a TV spot during NFL’s Thursday Night Football. Ms. Chopra followed this single with club hit “Exotic” featuring Pitbull. Each time this song hits my ears I immediately begin to dance. I hope the same occurs for you. But my personal favorite song is her remake of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. As a huge Bonnie Raitt fan there are few moments when I love a cover of her’s as much as the original. Priyanka’s is one of those moments. Check out Ms. Chopra in her musical glory:
If Ms. Chopra isn’t your new fave with the above, she will forever be endeared to your heart with her philanthropic feats. Priyanka is not only an advocate for the environment, but she has worked tirelessly on the behalf of women’s rights and child protection; in 2010 she was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights. Also, even with her tremendous fame, Priyanka is not one to shy away from making all efforts to achieve gender equality, and this along makes her remarkable.
“Be true to who you are. Be courage. Be selfless. Be love. Courage comes from knowing your truth and standing up for it. Only then is it special.” —Priyanka Chopra
