After OLITZ is leaked to the press, Liv and Fitz each try to do damage control. Watch a sneak peek of tonight’s Scandal, airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
NO ONE does a season premiere like Shonda Rhimes does, and Scandal‘s Season 5 opener was 100% ridiculous. There were actually times that I couldn’t believe my eyes…like was I *actually* seeing all my Olitz/Fitzlivia/Vermont dreams come true? But by the end of the episode, we saw that the bubble might not have burst, but there was a needle close by…
“Heavy is the Head” began with Sally Langston criticizing Fitz on her television show, Liberty Report. The Queen of Caledonia was visiting, and Sally didn’t think it was particularly patriotic or fiscally responsible to throw a huge state dinner.
But as we saw, Fitz could not find a single care to give! He and Olivia having all the make-up sexy times fun. Apparently, Liv had even moved into the White House, and though they still kept their relationship secret, the love was real. It was so real that Mellie’s invitation to the dinner was conveniently lost and the press was told she was ill (YIKES!)….there was clearly trouble in “paradise” and folks knew it.
The state dinner went well; however disaster descended so after. Queen Isabel’s son Prince Richard had married an American, Princess Emily (which was also part of the big celebration). Sadly, Princess Emily was killed in a terrible accident. The Queen and Prince reached out to Liv for their help in managing the crisis and stopping the photos from spreading in the press. After some investigation (Quinn’s intuition and David Rosen’s influence), we learned that the car accident wasn’t really an accident. Liv believed that Princess Emily was having an affair with her bodyguard (who also died in the car) and Prince Richard had them killed. She believed that Fitz should intervene and have Queen Isabel revoke Prince Richard’s immunity so he could be arrested and prosecuted. However, Fitz refused. He couldn’t risk offending the Queen and lose the naval base in Caledonia. Fitz and Liv had a heated argument…right in in front of Lizzie and David.
When David revealed to Liv that Princess Emily was pregnant, she went directly to the Queen to implicate Prince Richard…however, the Queen admitted that SHE was the one who had his son’s wife killed, all to prevent scandal. What could Liv do now? She confessed it all to Prince Richard, who insisted that his mother abdicate and quietly disappear.
In other developments, Huck still hadn’t recovered from doing Command’s bidding and murdering those jurors. He needed Liv’s help to put him back together, but this was way beyond her fixing abilities. In the end, Huck turned to Jake.
Elsewhere, Mellie was sworn in as Junior Senator from Virginia and Fitz was there holding the bible (after intervention from Liv, even though Lizzie North—his new Chief of Staff—tried her hardest to prevent his presence). However, after the ceremony, Fitz served Mellie with divorce papers! Mellie tried to beg Fitz to reconsider…she was still feeling a lot of guilt for providing Command with the information to kill that bus of jurors. But Fitz wouldn’t budge. Mellie even went to Cyrus for his help, but Cy refused. Once he got back in Fitz’s good graces, he wouldn’t want to be associated with Mellie.
Liv was very surprised that Fitz would ask Mellie for a divorce. He didn’t want to wait anymore to be together, but she knew they needed to get their affairs (pun intended 😉 ) in order before being thoroughly exposed and scrutinized by the public. Unfortunately, that plan wouldn’t come to be. Sally was back on TV and spilling the beans (WITH PHOTOS) about the President’s affair with Olivia Pope. O.M.G.
INSANITY! So, who do you think leaked the information? I say it’s either Papa Pope who reached out to Sally, intent on getting revenge on Liv and Fitz for his arrest. OR, it could be Fitz again. Remember, at the end of Season 2, it was Fitz who had his Secret Service agents leak his relationship with Olivia to keep Mellie from having that power over them. Of course, Liv was able to stuff that scandal back in its box.
Thoughts?
In tonight’s episode, “Yes”, written by Heather Mitchell and directed by Tony Goldwyn:
IT’S NOT EASY KEEPING A SECRET WHEN THE WORLD IS WATCHING—The Pope and Associates team dives into a new case that takes Olivia out of D.C. and away from the President. Meanwhile, back at the White House, Fitz is determined to find who’s responsible for causing the latest turn of events, and Abby receives unexpected guidance from a master of damage control as she struggles to catch a break. (via ABC)
WOW, so just as all the crazy has hit the fan, Liv takes a case that gets her the hell out of dodge!
Take a look at these two clips from “Yes.” In the first, Fitz is livid and immediately orders his team to find out who leaked the information about OLITZ. He then plans to find Liv so they can present a united front to the press.
But in the second video, Liv is already on the run, leaving while she still can. She also tells Fitz not to call her again…
YES, Fitz is about to get Poped in the most serious way. At least their relationship isn’t over…right? And Liv said she’d reach out again, so hopefully this means she’s going to handle business and save the day, AGAIN. I just feel bad for Abby because she has to deal with a room full of ravenous reporters.
I’m so excited for tonight’s episode!
“Yes” airs at 9:00pm ET|PT on ABC, so tune in and come live tweet while we watch!
