Liv changed the whole game with a single word! Tonight OPA and the White House try to figure out their next steps. Get a sneak peek of Scandal, airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
Last week when we saw that the title of the Scandal episode was “Yes“, I don’t think any of us imagined how significant that single word would come to be…am I right?!
The episode picked up in the aftermath of Sally Langston taking to the airwaves to out Fitz’s affair with Liv. Fitz headed to the office to handle business. Who was the leak? Would Fitz and Liv make a joint statement to the press? However, Liv had a whole other plan of her own. She had already left the White House and hide out before havoc descended.
At the White House, Abby was left with dealing with the press’ vehement questions. Fitz refused to make any comments without first hearing from Liv. Interestingly, Mellie thought that Fitz leaked the photos of Liv at the White House (similar to how he had his Secret Service detail give Liv’s name to the press at the end of season 2), but he denied any involvement. Rather, Fitz thought Mellie was the leak. This was a plan for her to avoid divorce, get back into the White House by offering to clean up the “mess” Fitz made. He took it a step further by having David and the Attorney General’s office investigate Mellie’s computers.
After escaping from the White House, Liv went to Quinn. She had a quick wardrobe change, a chug of red wine, and left town to take on a case in North Carolina. Gavin Price (GPreezy) was accused of killing his father (a wealthy developer). While on bail, GPreezy ran, and his step-mother needed help finding him. Liv cornered GPreezy at a casino and Jake came down to help bring him in. As they waited, GPreezy insisted that he was framed—his step-mother was probably responsible (she was cheating and wanted to break the requirements of the pre-nup). While watching TV, Gavin figured out who Liv was. Later at a diner, he distracted Liv and Jake by exposing her identity to some patrons. (Surprisingly, folks just wanted to take a picture with Liv…they didn’t seem particularly upset about the affair.) GPreezy escaped, but Liv and Jake cornered him at his house in Virginia and turned him over to the police. Case solved.
Back at the White House, Cyrus reached out to Abby to offer his advice. She would have to be the adult: Abby needed to tell Fitz the truth of things (that Liv would never agree to a life in the public eye), bring Mellie back to the White House, and get this scandal quashed. After a stern talk from Susan and Abby, Fitz ultimately agreed. He apologized to Mellie, then called Liv to assure her that he understood her POV. But at Fitz and Mellie sat down for an interview to deny the affair, Liv dropped a bomb. In the front of her OPA office, when reporters asked if she was the president’s mistress, she responded “yes”. MIND BLOWN!
Finally, who actually leaked the photos? Abby figured out that Lizzie sent the photos to Sally and framed Mellie. Abby agreed to keep quiet if Lizzie would treat her as an equal partner. (Of course, Lizzie agreed.)
In tonight’s episode “Paris is Burning”, written by Matt Byrne and directed by Jann Turner:
OLIVIA DISCOVERS THAT THERE’S ALWAYS A PRICE IN TELLING THE TRUTH—Olivia and Fitz face some very big consequences and Mellie brings in an old friend to make sure she gets her way. Meanwhile, Abby shows Olivia she is fully capable of handling working at the White House. (via ABC)
Watch these two clips from the upcoming show. In the first video, Fitz and Mellie are giving their interview to discredit the allegations that he’s been having an affair with Liv. But after Liv’s “Yes” bomb, Abby (with help from the Secret Service) is rushing to stop the interview before any more damage is done. And in the second clip, Liv and Abby finally have it out the lies regarding the rekindled relationship with Fitz:
THIS.IS.INSANITY.
I can’t wait to see Fitz’s reaction to Liv’s confirmation of their relationship. I’m pretty sure Mellie (and maybe even Cyrus) will be plotting to take Liv out. And where in the world do we go from here?!
