Tonight the White House and OPA prepare to go to war to save Fitz’s presidency! Get a sneak peek of Scandal, airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
In last week’s Scandal, Liv found life “under the bus” to be more difficult than she anticipated, and Fitz made moves to lighten her burden.
“Dog-Whistle Politics” began with an televised exposé of Liv’s life, from her early years to now (potentially) realizing her father’s dream for her to become one of the most powerful people in the world. Watching this exposé and its various revelations would remain the backdrop of the entire episode, including interviews with old acquaintances and speculations about her sex life and ambitions.
As for Fitz, he was incredibly disgusted by the way the press was treating Liv. He even went as far as to fire Abby (though Liv convinced him to bring her back on). Lizzie was actually more concerned with dealing with fallout from the Republican leadership. The Senator Gibson and the Senate leadership decided they were going to investigate the affair unless Fitz made some concessions. Specifically, they wanted him to roll back the Brandon Bill (police reform), which was Fitz’s legacy. Senator Gibson offered another piece of advice: “Next time you decide to go outside your marriage, choose yourself a girl who’s a little more palatable to the base.” (UGH!)
Meanwhile, Mellie was trying to settle into her new position at the Senate, and was called in for a meeting with the Senate Women’s Caucus. They were tired of “too many peckers” calling the shots, and wanted Mellie’s blessing to launch impeachment hearings for Fitz. Cyrus thought it was a great way for Mellie to launch her (their) political ambitions, but she wasn’t sure. Yes she was angry, but her priority was keeping a low profile and not coming out looking like a vindictive wife. Mellie also realized she didn’t want to hurt Fitz anymore, especially given the consequences for their children (*SIDENOTE* How ADORBS was baby Teddy?!). This decision ultimately split up the Mellie/Cyrus team and she fired him (*ANOTHER SIDENOTE* Cyrus’ passionate speech about loving Fitz as his son and soul was EPIC and creepy).
We also saw the expansion of OPA when Marcus Walker became a gladiator. At first, Quinn did her best Harrison/”gladiator in a suit” impression, but that wasn’t enough to convince Marcus. He wasn’t so impressed with OPA’s shady dealings and their loss of business. Eventually Marcus came around⎯he didn’t like how the press was using racial and gender coded language. He wanted to go straight to the press and call them out of the double-standard. Marcus, Quinn, and Huck had a series of interviews to accuse the press of playing dog-whistle politics.
Sure, this entire situation was Liv’s choice, but constantly being bombarded by paparazzi and especially the threats of murder and rape in social media got to be too much. After a frantic conversation with Fitz, he decided to take action. He was going to do the right thing (which might not be the smart thing). Fitz and the secret service got in their cars, drove down to Liv’s apartment, and picked her up for a date, right in front of the press. (IT WAS GLORIOUS!) But there was a backlash⎯Mellie decided to go ahead with impeachment plans.
Elsewhere, Jake was convinced that Papa Pope had some secret plan (Lazarus One) to refill B613’s accounts after being bankrupted. He’d steal some paintings, set a fire, sell the art on the black market, and then use those funds to re-launch his empire (“Boy, I am always free. No one can cage me.”). Who was working with Papa Pope on the outside? These questions took Jake to Paris, where he linked up with Charlie and a former “colleague”, Elise. But Jake and Elise had ties: they used to be married and apparently had a very bitter break-up (as in he thought she was dead. Elise agreed to help Jake find out who was selling the stolen pieces, but she was shot during the meeting (apparently the sellers were Russian). Jake asked her to come back to the U.S. with him to recuperate.
Tonight’s episode is entitled “You Got Served”, written by Zahir McGhee, directed by Kevin Bra, and features the return of Paul Adelstein as consultant and fixer Leo Bergan. Read the full synopsis below:
OLIVIA CALLS FOR BACKUP⎯Olivia knows she can’t handle this latest storm on her own and calls for help from an unexpected source. Meanwhile, Mellie and Cyrus continue to pull strings from the sidelines and Jake is still occupied by a ghost from his past. (via ABC)
This is VERY interesting. We know Mellie has decided to go ahead with calling for Fitz’s impeachment…does this mean she brings back Cyrus as her special advisor? What exactly does Cy have up his sleeve? I’m also incredibly curious to see how Jake’s ex-wife (?) Elise fits into his new life in DC with OPA.
Thanks to ABC, we’ve got two clips from the upcoming show, which start to answer these questions. In the fitst sneak peek, David Rosen comes to warn Fitz that he’ll be charged with impeachable offenses, and subject to trial by Congress. Fitz, obviously doesn’t believe he’s done anything wrong, but quickly realizes things aren’t that clean-cut. At OPA, Liv realizes that she’s about to be called before Congress to testify in the impeachment hearings and reaches out to Leo Bergen for help wading in these intensely political waters

THINGS ARE SERIOUS! Fitz needs to get a lawyer and start preparing to be on trial for his presidency. I’m actually encouraged by Leo’s plan to change the narrative of the Olitz/Fitzlivia affair. I mean, I already think it’s one of the most compelling romances I’ve ever known, and I really think the media/country will too!
Check out 15+ images from “You Got Served”, which give us more insight into the episode. We see Fitz meeting the lawyer David suggested and Leo executing his plan to spin Olitz/Fitzlivia, which includes a big interview!
Yep, Cyrus is definitely up to something…and I don’t know if it’ll be good or bad, which makes me nervous!
Tune into ABC at 9:00pm ET|PT when the new Scandal airs and remember to live tweet with us while the “OMG moments” unfold!
