Snow White and the Huntsman continues with prequel The Huntsman Winter’s War starring Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain dropping into theaters April 22, 2016.
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock, and Hossein Amini, which starred Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Sam Claflin dazzled audiences; this fangirl included. Being a major fan of Rupert Sanders portfolio, I was truly excited to see how he would tackle his directorial debut, and he and his crew of folks did not disappoint. Visually the optics were spectacular, and the Snow White fairy tale was turned on its head when Snow White (Kristen Stewart) was vital in her own rescue and vanquished The Evil Queen/Queen Ravenna (Oscar Winner Charlize Theron) by stabbing her in the heart. Now the consequences of this action have come home to roost in epic action-adventure, The Huntsman Winter’s War.
The Huntsman Winter’s War which stars Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain, tells how The Huntsman Eric (Chris Hemsworth) and Queen Ravenna are more connected than realized. Queen Ravenna has a sister, Freya (Emily Blunt), who fled their kingdom after suffering a heartbreaking betrayal. Freya has the ability to freeze any enemy, and in her remote wintry palace she spends her time raising a legion of deadly huntsmen that included Eric and a warrior, Sara (Jessica Chastain). Eric and Sara fall in love, and this love goes against Queen Freya’s one demand: “Forever harden your hearts to love.” and therefore they are banished.
Now Freya has learned of her sister’s fall due to Snow White’s blade. Freya, The Ice Queen calls upon her remaining huntsmen to retrieve her sisters Magic Mirror so she can harness its power to resurrect Ravenna from its depths. With The Evil Queen and The Ice Queen working together, the enchanted land is going up against a dark force from likes it has never seen before, unless The Huntsman and The Warrior can lead a crew to stop them.
The Huntsman Winter’s War brings characters created by Evan Daugherty in Snow White and the Huntsman back, but this time the screenplay was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and Craig Mazin, and directed by Snow White and the Huntsman second unit director and visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Cedric has an impressive catalog and based on the trailer below audiences will be privy to another breathtaking saga, filled with action and powerful performances that will have us begging for more.
