STARZ announces that newcomer Sophie Skelton will play Brianna for Outlander Season 2.
If you have yet to read Dragonfly in Amber, please proceed with caution!
Sassenachs, this news is major! Earlier this afternoon STARZ announced that actress Sophie Skelton has been cast as Brianna, Jamie and Claire’s daughter!

After last month’s announcement that Richard Rankin would be playing Roger Wakefield (MacKenzie), we knew it was only a matter of time before news about Brianna arrived too.
If you’ll recall, at the end of Dragonfly in Amber, we learn that when Jamie sends Claire back through the stones, she is pregnant. Though Frank Randall takes responsibility of Bree and raises her as his own, Claire makes sure her daughter bears a link to her true heritage (she’s named for Jamie’s father and mother—Brian for the first name, and Ellen as her middle name).
Over the course of DiA, Bree eventually learns the truth of Claire’s time-traveling and relationship with Jamie. In fact, a lot of this book, as well as books 3 and 4 (Voyager, Drums of Autumn) are about Bree coming to terms with loving her two fathers. *EXCITE*
According to Entertainment Weekly:
Born in Woodford, Cheshire, the actress [Sophie Skelton] is a trained singer and dancer who went on to appear in U.K. series like Doctors, DCI Banks, Waterloo Road, and Foyle’s War. She most recently appeared as Gemma Holt in an episode of the BBC drama Casualty, Forsaking All Others, and she’s about to play the title role in Ren, an online fantasy action-adventure series.
Hypable also uncovered Sophie’s acting screen reel (below), so we can see some of her previous work:
Outlander will return in April (*WOOT*), and as of this point, it isn’t clear in the structure of the season will follow that of book two (starting with Claire, Bree, and Roger in the 1960’s and flashing back and forth to Claire and Jamie in Paris and Scotland in 1744/1745). In fact, all of the trailers and images we’ve seen are from the 18th Century.
