Tonight Dre confronts a stereotype that may reflect his actual inability to swim. Get a sneak peek of black-ish, airing at 9:31pm ET|PT on ABC.
black-ish is back tonight after a brief hiatus! The last time we were with the Johnsons (“Keeping Up with the Johnsons“), Bow was concerned with how Dre was managing the family’s financial resources. At the same time, Junior and Jack had some fun with the stock market (a la The Wolf of Wall Street), basing their investments on Zoey’s fashion choices. In the end, Dre and Bow realized that they had to work together to make sure they were fiscally responsible with family planning, and the boys literally lost the shirts in the stock-market!
In tonight’s episode “Sink or Swim”(written by Gail Lerner and directed by Michael Schultz), the hilarity continues!
DRE IS CONVINCED THAT HIS NEIGHBOR HASN’T INVITED THE FAMILY TO HER POOL PARTIES BECAUSE SHE ASSUMES THEY DON’T SWIM—After Dre notices that his neighbor Janine has never invited his family to any of her pool parties, he assumes she is racially stereotyping them as a family that doesn’t swim. The kids are shocked to find out that, in fact, Dre doesn’t know how to swim. At work, Dre shares the story with his colleagues, and Daphne Lido is not convinced it’s a race thing, so Dre confronts Janine directly. Meanwhile, Jack and Diane are a part of the Girls’ and Boys’ Rovers Organization, and they envy each other’s activities. (via ABC)
Yet again, black-ish tackles misconceptions about the African-American community in their own quirky way.
In this clip from the upcoming show, we see that Dre is, in fact, offended that the neighbor invites everyone else, but the Johnsons, to her house for some fun pool times. While Bow thinks it has more to do with Dre’s creepy antics, Dre thinks it’s a race thang:
