Production of both Fifty Shades of Grey sequels began this week in Vancouver.

OHITHERE fellow Fifty Fangirls; long time no chat! The last time we were together, we learned that Fifty Shades Darker (FSD) would hit theaters on February 10, 2017 (followed by Fifty Shades Freed on February 9, 2018). Plus, we learned that Niall Leonard (EL James’ husband) would pen the FSD screenplay with James Foley directing.
Well, flash-forward 10 months, and here we are with principal photography of Fifty Shades Darker underway!
This past Tuesday, EL shared a photo from set (on her Instagram account), wishing cast an crew good luck as the first day of filming commenced. She also shared a pic of the film’s screenplay:

According to Variety, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are both reprising their roles of Ana and Christian. Eloise Mumford (Kate Kavanaugh), Luke Grimes (Elliot Grey), and Max Martini (Jason Taylor) are also returning.
They will be joined by several new cast mates, including some characters us Fifty lovers are eager to meet:
- Kim Basinger will play Elena Lincoln (aka MRS. ROBINSON), the woman who introduced Christian to the BDSM lifestyle, also a friend to the Grey family and Christian’s current business partner (via Variety).
- Bella Heathcoate will play Leila, Christian’s former submissive who isn’t ready to let him go (via Variety).
- Eric Johnson will play Jack Hyde, Ana’s boss at Seattle Independent Publishing (SIP), who turns out to have a close connection to Christian as well (via Variety).
- Robinne Lee will play Ros Bailey, a Senior VP at Grey Enterprise Holdings and Christian’s colleague (via Variety, EL James).
- Fay Masterson will play Mrs. (Gail) Jones, Christian’s housekeeper and eventually a love interest of Jason Taylor (via Variety, EL James).
- Hugh Dancy with play Dr. John Flynn, Christian’s therapist/psychiatrist “Originally from England, Flynn moved to Seattle after he married an American woman.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
- Tyler Hoechlin of Teen Wolf fame (Derek Hale, anyone?!) will play Boyce Fox, Ana’s co-worker at SIP and the first author she signs to the publishing house once she becomes editor (via The Wrap)
- Arielle Kebbel will play Gia Matteo (Fifty Shades Freed), an architect Christian hires to build his and Ana’s dream home (via The Hollywood Reporter).
- Brant Daugherty (Fifty Shades Freed) will play Luke Sawyer, Ana’s personal driver and security guard (via EL James, The Fandemonium Network).
Filming is currently underway in Vancouver, British Columbia with Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed filming back-to-back. We can’t wait to see what Team Fifty delivers!
