Charlie Hunnam debuted the first trailer for the upcoming, action-packed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword during last week’s Warner Bros. Comic-Con presentation.
OK, so you all know that I love historical fiction/mythology and one of my most favorite stories is that of King Arthur.
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated by Arthur’s legends. I adored watching young Arthur/Wart and his mentor Merlin in Disney’s The Sword in the Stone.
As an adult, I enjoyed the drama of First Knight with Sean Connery as King Arthur, Richard Gere as Lancelot, and Julia Ormond as Guinevere.
More recently, the STARZ series Camelot (Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Jamie Campbell Bower as Arthur, Eva Green as Morgan) and BBC One’s fantasy dramedy Merlin with Bradley James as Arthur and Colin Morgan’s Merlin were incredibly entertaining.
I’m pretty sure there’s a King Arthur adaptation for every age and genre out there, and next year Guy Ritchie is tossing his own take on the legend into the mix.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword stars the delicious Charlie Hunnam as Arthur, himself.
Last week at San Diego Comic-Con, Hunnam took part in the Warner Bros. panel to present the new trailer and we have it below for you to enjoy here.
In the trailer, we see that Arthur is a bit of a scoundrel… he and his buddies cause all sorts of trouble in the streets of Camelot. However, things change when Arthur starts having visions of his future. And when he pulls that sword out of the stone, his destiny starts to unfold:
I loved Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes adaptations with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is giving me those same feels.

Guy Ritchie (“The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” the “Sherlock Holmes” films) directed the film from a screenplay is by Joby Harold (“Awake”) and Guy Ritchie & Lionel Wigram, story by David Dobkin (“The Judge”) and Joby Harold. The film is produced by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind,” “I Am Legend”), Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell (“Awake,” “Holy Rollers”), and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” and “Sherlock Holmes” producers Steve Clark-Hall, Guy Ritchie and Lionel Wigram. David Dobkin and Bruce Berman are executive producers.
Ritchie’s behind-the-scenes creative team included two-time Oscar-nominated director of photography John Mathieson (“Gladiator,” “The Phantom of the Opera”), Oscar-nominated production designer Gemma Jackson (“Finding Neverland”), editor James Herbert (“The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” “Edge of Tomorrow”), costume designer Annie Symons (Masterpiece Theater’s “Great Expectations”), makeup and hair designer Christine Blundell (“Mr. Turner,” the “Sherlock Holmes” films), and Oscar-nominated VFX Supervisor Nick Davis (“The Dark Knight”).
