SHERLOCK will return in the U.S. and UK on New Years Day 2017! Watch a new trailer from what seems to be a very dark upcoming season.

Since the SHERLOCK cast and creators revealed the new Season 4 trailer back at Comic-Con, we’ve all be eagerly awaiting a date for the premiere.
Well folks, today, BBC One and PBS Masterpiece finally made the announcement: SHERLOCK will be back on January 1, 2017! And even more exciting, the series premiere will air on the same day in both the U.S. and UK.
As with previous seasons, there will be three episodes, and the titles of the first two have been revealed: “The Six Thatchers” and “The Lying Detective”.
“Promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases, season four will begin with the nation’s favorite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge – becoming parents for the first time.”

But judging from the new trailer, there is some serious danger awaiting our favorite characters. Some intangible threat is on its way (Moriarty, maybe more) and by the end, Sherlock might end up institutionalized.
We also get a peek at Toby Jones in his new role. BBC One and PBS Masterpiece announced this summer that he would star in the second episode (directed by Nick Hurran). Although, he does look to be a potential adversary to Sherlock. Watch below:

“Everyone they know is under threat.”
WOW.
Did you see Mary going undercover? And what’s with that heated confrontation between Mrs. Hudson and Mycroft?!
One of the things I love most about SHERLOCK is the balance between drama, mystery, and humor. But we might not be getting that much comedy in Season 4 because things look so dark!
What do you think?
I can’t wait to watch and live tweet the new series. I hope you’ll join me!
