Catch up on the latest Outlander news, including three new cast members for Season 3!
Serious spoilers ahead Sassenachs!
Each week brings us more information about Outlander developments, and I’ve got some pretty cool news to share!
I’ll begin with the new cast members for Season 3.
On Thursday, STARZ announced that they’ve cast the Dunsany sisters for the new season. Hannah James will play Geneva and Tanya Reynolds will play Isobel.
Now, those of us who have read Voyager might feel ambivalent about this news. We recall that Geneva has a very interesting place in Jamie’s life.
After leaving Ardsmuir Prison, Jamie spends time as an indentured servant to Lord Dunsany in Northern England.
While there, Jamie has a brief relationship with Geneva right before she’s due to marry an elderly Lord Ellesmere. Geneva becomes pregnant after her night with Jamie, but she ends up dying in childbirth. And Jamie kills Lord Ellesmere when he threatens to kill the baby boy in a drunken rage (Ellesmere himself doubts that he’s the father).
In any event, Isobel Dunsany marries Lord John Grey and end up raising young William as their own child.
WOWSA… you know those episodes are going to be CRAYZAY.
Truth be told, these are some of my least favorite moments in the series, so I can’t say I’m looking forward to it. BUT, I trust Team Outlander, and I’ll definitely be watching.
According to the official character descriptions:
Eldest daughter Geneva is as beautiful as she is headstrong. Yet she’s also petulant, spoiled and demanding of the servants at their home- Helwater. Geneva’s accustomed to getting exactly what she wants when she wants it. Underneath however she has a vulnerability — even a naiveté — due to her sheltered life.
Isobel, Geneva’s younger sister, is warm, friendly and genuine. Though more plain than her sister, Isobel is inherently more likeable and compassionate towards others.
The Daily Record is also reporting that Scottish actor Conor McCarry has been cast as the adult Wee Jamie, Jenny and Ian Murray’s oldest son and the heir to Lallybroch. Conor attended the Scottish BAFTA Awards last week (where our gorgeous Caitriona Balfe won the award for Best Actress in Television!) and was pictured with Steven Cree, AKA Ian.
We already know that Season 3 picks up right after Claire travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to Frank.
Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire.
As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love.
The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart… as well as new doubt. Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other, but when they do, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?
We also know that filming began for the 13-episode season in August 2016 in Scotland. According to STARZ, production will then move to South Africa in 2017. (Black Sails films in South Africa, so it’s likely Outlander will be making use of their set/studios to film the journey to the Americas.)

I know many of us are already watching the Outlander Season 2 special features, but it never hurts to highlight some of our faves. The Hollywood News shared an exclusive, which you can check out below.
The video is a clip from a behind-the-scenes featurette where Diana Gabaldon, Ron Moore, and Maril Davis talk about Diana’s role in the adaptation process, include her writing a script for Season 2 (“Vengeance is Mine“)
*EXCITE* Make sure to grab your Outlander wine so we can enjoy it when the series returns next year!
