Principal photography has begun on the still untitled Han Solo Star Wars prequel. Check out the first cast photo!
Soon after the blockbuster success that was Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm/Disney announced that a Han Solo prequel film was in the works. And of course the world went wild!
Well, yesterday, we learned that the still untitled film is officially in production (via StarWars.com)!
Principal photography began this week (February 20) at Pinewood Studios, London.
What do we know about the plot? Well, according to the press release “the movie will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian.”
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are co-directing the film, with a cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, our boo-thang Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian (who was recently cast as Simba in the live-action The Lion King), Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.
This news came with a (partial) cast photo, which you can see below. Everyone is looking bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready to dive into this new Star Wars story:

Thandie Newton (who was recently rumored to be in talks to join the film) isn’t pictured.
Also, did we know that Emilia Clarke, AKA our fierce Khaleesi, was part of this project?! *FLAILS*
Directors Lord and Miller expressed their excitement about working with such a talented cast:
“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous. We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”
The Han Solo Star Wars Story is slated for release on May 25, 2018.
