Tapping That Asset by London Hale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
[For Mature Audiences; Some Spoilers]
One of my favorite author finds this year has been London Hale. I love epic-length romance stories as much as the next person, but sometimes it’s so nice to pick up something short, sweet, and super sexy. London Hale’s Temperance Falls series totally gets the job done, in this regard. The heroes always bring the alpha-male swoons and the heroines are assertive women who are badasses in their fields and ready to go toe-to-toe with their men. We, as the readers, certainly get the benefit of those confrontations!
London Hale’s latest novella, Tapping That Asset, begins with Kennedy Rochester, a newcomer to Temperance Falls. She’s the CFO of her family business, Rochester Entertainment. Now, this is no small feat because the company is a huge conglomerate with restaurants all over the country. Her brother, Charles, the CEO is determined to move into the brewery business and wants to set up shop in Temperance Falls. Kennedy isn’t too fond of the idea, particularly because her analyses show that the investment won’t be a very sound one. Regardless, Kennedy is along for the ride. And what do you know, she gets the ride of her life on her first night in town. Kennedy meets the most sexy man named AJ in the hotel bar, and a few drinks and flirty banter becomes the one-night-stand to end all one-night-stands!
“You trying to mark me, pretty girl?”
“You said you’d be mine for the night. I’m just staking my claim.”
She leaned forward, nipping my bottom lip. “Don’t worry. The only marks I’ll leave on your cock will come from my lipstick.”
Christ on a goddamn cracker, how did this woman already know exactly what to say to make me throb with want, to make my cock weep as it strained to get closer to her? “I hope you didn’t have any plans for the foreseeable future, because they’re officially canceled.”
I trailed my nose across her collarbone, traced the swells of her tits with my tongue. “It’s going to take me hours to do everything I want to this body. And when I’m done, you’ll be so hoarse from screaming, you won’t be able to talk.”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep, sport.”
A laugh rumbled from my chest, rusty and low. “Don’t worry, baby. Before the night is done, you’re going to lose count of how many times you’ve come. That is a promise.”
I squeezed her ass then slid my hand between her legs from behind, groaning as damp panties met my fingers. “Jesus, you’re wet.”
She rocked against me, trying to direct my hand exactly where she wanted it. “Have been since I walked into the bar and saw you. Are you going to keep me waiting?”
Much as I wanted to feel her come on my fingers and my tongue, those would have to wait. Especially when she looked three seconds away from exploding in my arms. I wanted to feel that on my cock, wanted her riding it when she fell apart……She clung to me, her arms tight around my shoulders, her nails digging into my skin. And I loved it. I fucking loved that she’d leave those marks on me. That I’d wake up tomorrow and have a physical reminder of an amazing night with a woman I certainly hadn’t planned for. Gripping her ass with one hand, I brought the other between us, seeking her swollen clit with my thumb. On the first brush, she shuddered in my arms, whimpering against my ear. When I ran soft circles all over her slit, her pussy fluttered around my driving cock. But when I focused my efforts, my thumb flicking back and forth against her clit in quick, unrelenting strokes, she went off. Head tossed back, she ground down on me, taking me inside as far as she could while she groaned through her release…
“Now that that first orgasm is out of the way,” I said as I pushed deep, rotating my hips and pressing against her clit, “it’s time for some fun.”
YAS HONEY! It’s no wonder why Kennedy can’t get AJ off her mind. But before she can even think of contacting him for another night together, they come face to face and the circumstances are less than ideal. AJ and his best friend Luke own Pops’ Hops, the local brewery that Charles (and by association Kennedy) plan to put out of business with their new venture.
Now Kennedy and AJ are stuck between a rock and a very hard place (pun intended!). Kennedy wants to support the family business, even if Charles is being irrational. However, her connection with AJ is something she can’t ignore. Similarly, AJ wants to save Pops’ Hops for Luke’s sake and really shouldn’t be fraternizing with the enemy. At the same time, the more time he spends with Kennedy, the harder it is to stay away, despite the fact her brother is an asshat.
As I’ve come to expect, Tapping That Asset gives us a sweet HEA, with the angst pretty much wrapped up in a sultry bow. The chemistry between Kennedy and AJ is on fire, especially heightened by the angst of their situation. The secondary relationships between AJ and his best friend Luke plus Kennedy and her (horrid) brother Charles are a also well done and add some complexity to the main story. I do have some questions about Kennedy’s other family, like her other (younger) brother…
