Fifty Shades Freed is a culmination of so many years of fangirling and expectations, as we finally see Ana and Christian walk into their kinky, happily ever after. Watch our video review!
*SPOILER ALERT*

We (Katie and Funmbi) are massive Fifty Shades fangirls since November 2009. It and EL James will always have the most special place our hearts. The last installment of the franchise, Fifty Shades Freed, premiered earlier this month and watching the film, the culmination of so many years of fangirling and expectations, was an emotional experience. We certainly can’t imagine what it was like for EL, who has poured so much of herself into these books and films.
With this in mind, we happily present our video review of Fifty Shades Freed!
From the beginning, with Ana/Christian’s wedding and their honeymoon montage through Europe, the streamlined plot is set to a wonderful soundtrack that helps the viewer get swept away by the romance and fantasy of it all.
Dakota Johnson continues to blow us away with her portrayal of Anastasia Steele-Grey. Dakota brings an adorable quirkiness to Ana that makes her so relatable. It’s been a treat to watch Ana’s development over the course of the series. She’s a badass in her professional life, as well as fully embracing her sexual agency inside and outside of the Red Room. Ana is very much Christian’s equal and a leader in their relationship. Jamie Dornan as Christian is forever overbearing, but with Ana’s guidance, he’s able to rein some of that in and learn how to be a part of a healthy relationship of mutual love and respect. There are several moments that highlight this, like car sexy times, ice cream + table sexy times… 😉
“Why do you insist on defying me?” Christian asks at one point. To which Ana, responds, “Because I can.” YAS SHE CAN, and Christian knows he loves it!
While it’s a joy to see Ana and Christian’s married life, the threat of Jack Hyde still looms. Eric Johnson acting in this role has us so conflicted, because Jack is the scariest, creepiest, and sexiest villain ever.
And then another obstacle arises from closer to home, when Ana realizes Christian isn’t at all enthused about their Little Blip. Yet again, it’s Ana and the potential of losing her, that pushes Christian to “grow the fuck up” and realize that it’s time to let go of the resentment and pain his birth mother caused.
In the end, Christian and Ana settle into their beautiful and kinky life together–“You’re topping from the bottom, Mrs. Grey. But I can live with that.”
We can too!
This is also why WE WANT MORE and really hope that the Fifty Shades Freed DVD will have extended and deleted scenes… like Christian/Mrs. Robinson and Hugh Dancy as Dr. Flynn, Christian’s therapist.
The Fifty Shades franchise recently crossed the $1 BILLION mark in terms of profits earned (domestic and international market). This is certainly a testament to the power of Female Fandoms (BUNKER CLUB!!!) and what can happen when you treat female readers/viewers with respect (as EL James and Team Fifty undoubtably do). Our sincere hope is that this continues to open up opportunities for other women authors, filmmakers, and female-oriented stories!
Fifty Shades Freed is now playing in theaters.
