The Walking Dead made its annual trek to SDCC and dropped some casting news, its premiere date, and the trailer for season ten!

Ten years on television is a huge accomplishment, and The Walking Dead began celebrating at SDCC.
At the panel, showrunner, Angela Kang, revealed two additions to the cast. Whisperer Gamma played by Thora Birch and Kevin Carroll as Virgil.
It’s also very obvious that Judith (Cailey Fleming) is the future of the series and she’s absolutely precious and fierce as hell in the trailer.
In some ‘sad but you knew it’ news, Danai Gurira confirmed this will be her last season playing Michonne on The Walking Dead. Hopefully they can wrap her arc up nicely. I’m trying to maintain that hope despite the fact she kisses Ezekiel in the trailer.
I don’t know if I believe this one. Either the storytelling is getting really messy or they’re pretending. I fail to believe the creative team would show their hand this early if they really wanted a Michonne/Ezekiel romance.
Since Danai is exiting the show, I can’t figure out what the last clip of her in the trailer foreshadows about her character development or how they will have her leave. Will she die? Will she disappear? Will she go searching for Rick?
Whichever option it is, the trailer ends with Michonne holding Lucille.
Whew. It’s going to be a journey.
Also in the trailer, there’s a significant amount of Daryl and Carol. These two have been close throughout the series, and Daryl calls her his best friend in the trailer. Will they finally let Caryl happen as a fan service or will they team up to take down Alpha?
Personally, I think Carol may team up with Negan. In the trailer, Daryl confronts Negan, telling him they’ve never really gone toe-to-toe, but they can. It feels like Negan could be an ally for Carol who is looking for revenge.
Carol does say, “Bitch has to die.” So, that big fight is coming. Will Alpha die by Negan’s hand like in the comics or by Carol’s?
We’ll have to wait and see.
In addition to our central group, it looks like we’ll be seeing more Oceanside this season as they make good on their promise to train the communities.
Also, they’ve redeemed Negan and he’s free. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is super charismatic but Negan is trash.
Now let’s look at the premiere date! Instead of the usual second week in October, The Walking Dead will premiere October 6 on AMC.
Leading up to the premiere, AMC will have a “TWDxReveal” every Thursday leading up to the season ten debut on their social media.
