We got our first look at His Dark Materials last week at SDCC, and it was fantastic! Watch the trailer below and share your flails with us!

As the details emerge for this series, our excitement is getting harder to contain. In a recent, TV Critics’ Association press tour panel, showrunner Jack Thorne, said that the series will follow the books with one book covered over a season. So, it looks like we’ll be seeing three seasons of His Dark Materials! If all goes as planned of course.
At San Diego Comic-Con last week, HBO released the first trailer for the series, and it was nearly 3 minutes long. The generosity, y’all!
The series follows Lyra (Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust.
The series is also available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms.
There’s no set release date yet, but we can expect His Dark Materials sometime this fall. I really hope we get a couple more teasers before the series premieres.
What are you most excited for in this adaptation? The beloved novels by Philip Pullman have been staples of children’s literature since the mid 90s, but cast members are quick to note that there are layers to these books and the series that shouldn’t have viewers putting it into a certain box too quickly.
The series takes a look at what power does in the hands of people who shouldn’t have it. It delves deep into organized religion, though no one religion is openly stated in the novels or series.
His Dark Materials looks at what life would be like if your soul was outside your body and people could see who you are upon first meeting you.
We can’t wait for this one!
