TNT turns made-for-TV original movie series “The Librarian’ into a TV series which premieres on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 8/7c.
I’m very excited to announce that TNT is taking one of my favorite made-for-TV original movie series into a TV show. The Librarians premieres on TNT, Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 8 PM (ET/PT). The made-for-TV original movie franchise starred Noah Wyle as Flynn Carsen and produced three films that came out in 2004, 2006, and 2008.
The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004) began all the goodness. Flynn Carsen a perpetual student is kicked out of his program while trying to seek his 22nd degree and is forced to take a 6 month break from school. Flynn finds this supernatural invitation to apply for a position and through his observation he is able to secure the position as “The Librarian.” In this role he protects mystical artifacts and travels the world to retrieve others. The first film revolves around Flynn with the help of his Guardian (and later girlfriend) Nicole Noone (Sonya Walger) trying to secure pieces of the spear, prior to Edward Wilde (Kyle MacLachlan), Lana (Kelly Hu), and Rhodes (David Dayan Fisher). The first film in the franchise was delightful and it was wonderful to see mystical items like Pandora’s Box and Excalibur show up within the movie. The Librarian: Quest for the Spear also starred Bob Newhart as Judson, Jane Curtin as Charlene, and Olympia Dukakis as Flynn’s mother Margie Carsen.
The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines (2006) was the second film in the franchise. Noah Wyle, Bob Newhart, Jane Curtin, and Olympia Dukakis were back in the original roles, but newbie Gabrielle Anwar who portrayed Emily Davenport was added to the mix. In The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines Flynn receives a map with the secret location of King Solomon’s Mines. But the map gets stolen and Flynn goes to retrieve it and is pitted against new villain General Samir (Erick Avari). In an attempt to outwit General Samir, Flynn works with Emily Davenport to successfully retrieve the items stolen.
We conclude the TV movie franchise with The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008). Flynn by this point in his tenure is at his wits end. He hasn’t had a successful relationship since taking on the role of The Librarian and Judson and Charlene let him know maybe it’s time for him to take a vacation. During his vacation to New Orleans, Flynn meets up with French singer and 400-year-old vampire Simone Renoir (Stana Katic). Hijinks ensue and the quest to retrieve Judas Chalice begins. Simone and Flynn are attempting to keep Judas Chalice away from Sergei Kubichek (Dikran Tulaine) who wants to use the chalice to revive Vlad Dracul.
Now 6 years later TNT revives the The Librarian franchise in the form of a TV series. On Sunday, December 7th we will get introduced to a new gang of Librarians. Rebecca Romijn as Eve Baird The Librarian’s Guardian, Noah Wyle returns as Flynn Carsen The Librarian, Christian Kane as Jacob Stone The Art Historian, Lindy Booth as Cassandra Cillian The Mathematician, John Kim as Ezekiel Jones The Theif, and John Larroquette as Jenkins The Caretaker. We will also see Judson and Charlene along the way.
I suspect that The Librarians TV series will provide loads of enjoyment just like the made-for-TV original movie franchise did. Get a look at the extended trailer for the season premiere:
