You know the holiday season is truly here because the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special airs tonight on NBC at 8|7c.
When December 1st hits I truly begin to feel the holiday spirit. But the thing that makes me truly feel like Christmas is near is the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special. NBC will bring us the 82nd annual holiday extravaganza that will feature a Norway Spruce from Hemlock Township, PA. The Norway Spruce is 85-feet tall, 90 years old, and weights about 13 tons. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit during the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special and will remain so until January 7, 2015. The holiday event airs live from Rockefeller Center beginning at 8 PM ET and will open with Mariah Carey singing her #1 hit “All I Want For Christmas is You.”
The Christmas in Rockefeller Center special will be a star-studded event that will be hosted by Today anchors Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and Natalie Morales. On top of Mariah Carey opening the show we will see performances from Prince Royce, Darius Rucker, the Rockettes, Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett, Cyndi Lauper featuring Billy Porter, Seth MacFarlane featuring Sara Bareilles, Idina Menzel, Pentatonix, LeAnn Rimes, and Trisha Yearwood. Prior to the telecast, an additional hour of the special will be broadcasted on select NBC stations, so check your local listings to see if you can turn the one hour of holiday greatness into two.
Now from the holiday event details to a great cause.
Once again, Green is Universal — NBCUniversal’s sustainability initiative — and the Arbor Day Foundation will kick off their tree planting campaign “Share a Tree” during the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” broadcast. Viewers will be asked to participate by tweeting #shareatree, or visiting greenisuniversal.com. For every tweet, like, share or comment the Arbor Day Foundation will plant one tree, up to 1 million.
This year when visitors go to http://www.greenisuniversal.com/ they’ll come across a digital forest with hand-drawn trees from NBCU talent, including Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Alison Sweeney, Andy Cohen, Jim Cramer and many more. NBCU fans are invited to decorate and share their own digital trees, plus share our talents’ customized trees. Each tree decorated, plus every like, share, retweet and comment, will plant a tree. All the social actions will also trigger donations from NBCU to Arbor Day, up to $25,000. (via NBC)
