Watch the new trailer for The Divergent Series: Insurgent, featuring Shailene Woodley (Tris Prior), Theo James (Tobias/Four Eaton), Kate Winslet (Jeanine Matthews), and more.
This has been a FANTASTIC week to be an Initiate! Last Friday, we got the first official photo still from The Divergent Series: Insurgent, featuring Tris (Shailene Woodley), Four (Theo James), and Caleb (Ansel Elgort), decked in Amity clothes, wielding weapons, and running. We were also told to “brace” ourselves for December 12. I know we were all curious about what this message might mean. Then this past Monday, the official Divergent Movie Series twitter account confirmed that the first official Insurgent trailer would be released! And all week long we’ve been getting teasers with photo stills from the film (see photo gallery below for HQs).
Well, Initiates, this morning the full trailer finally dropped, and it’s incredible. If you’ll recall, at the end of the Divergent film/book, Tris, Four, Caleb, Peter (Miles Teller), and Marcus (Ray Stevenson) have fled from the city. As Insurgent picks up, Tris and Four are trying to build an alliance between the remaining factions (Amity, Candor) and the Factionless in order to challenge Jeanine (Kate Winslet) and the Erudite. Watch the trailer and and I’ll see you below to chat:
So, what do you think???
I wasn’t joking when I said this trailer is incredible, and there are several things that jump out at me and make me even more desperate for March 2015! There’s so much action and combat, which really shows us that the city is at war right now. We’ve been seeing the #DefyReality hashtag for awhile now, but the trailer embodies it–the leaping, flying, shattering (both within and outside of simulations) totally jars the senses! Even in this newly released film poster, we see Tris and Four literally defying our realities.

Tris is fierce! In Insurgent, we really see her try to balance between her Abnegation, Dauntless, and Erudite characteristics. She’s brave, selfless, and smart, and I’m really excited to see more of how Shai infuses Tris with all of these things.
And you know I have to talk about Theo James as Four. Insurgent Four is my favorite, and I see that my love is about to reach another level. I can’t wait to see him take on a more firm leadership role. And of course Four is ferocious: when it comes to fighting, vaulting in front of trains (OHMYGOODNESS), and protecting Tris, nothing will stop him from doing what he needs to do.
I’m intrigued by this storyline about Jeanine/Eric (Jai Courtney)/the Erudite ruthlessly testing Divergents to open a box, which holds some truth about the future of the Faction System. Those of us who have read the book remember the Edith Prior video and the role that it plays in Insurgent‘s major conflicts. But from what I can recall, book Jeanine tries to suppress the video from being discovered, not open it. Perhaps this box holds a different secret–in any event it’s great to see Kate and Jai back in their roles.
Traitor Caleb and Traitor Peter also feature in the trailer, and every time I see them, I get ragey (grrrrrrrrr). In addition, it’s fantastic to see new characters make their debut, including Keiynan Lonsdale as fan-favorite Uriah, Daniel Dae Kim as Candor leader Jack Kang, Naomi Watts as Evelyn Eaton (Four’s mom and leader of the Factionless), and Octavia Spencer as Amity spokeswoman Johanna.
There’s so much to look forward to, and we’ve only gotten a two and a half minute trailer! I don’t want to be greedy, but I’m already looking forward to getting official movie clips and sneak peeks.
