“He’s in the mist of all bullets flying…” Get your sneak peek into tonight’s episode of Empire airing on FOX at 9:01 PM (ET/PT).
Empire continues to do well in the ratings marketing. Last week’s episode “The Devil Quotes Scripture” raked in 10.9 million viewers. One may contest the high numbers and state the ratings continue to rise because Modern Family and Black-ish were repeats last week, but for FOX Empire has been a hit.
Season 1, episode 3, “The Devil Quotes Scripture” wasn’t a fan favorite according some grumblings on the Interwebs, but I was quite entertained to see Lucious (Terrence Howard) lie his way through all things dealing with the murder of Bunkie Campbell (Antoine McKay). Watching Lucious in white give the eulogy at the funeral of the man he murdered makes his name rise on my list of characters I will never like. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) was not letting Anika Gibbons (Grace Gealey) have a singular moment to shine and I wasn’t mad at her about it. The drama of the episode truly came to a head when Jamal (Jussie Smollett) performed a song written by old family friend Puma (Cuba Gooding Jr.), that Lucious flounced on back in the day. Lucious dislike of the song might have to do with the fact that Puma wrote the song to declare his love for Cookie. In the end, the poor treatment from Lucious gave Jamal the strength to break away for his father’s financial hold and declare war on Lucious’ empire.
Tonight on season 1, episode 4, Empire, “False Imposition” Lucious goes after a hot artist from rival company Safe House Records, which may lead to some bullets flying towards Lucious and company. Meanwhile, Cookie wants to develop a relationship with her (hateful) youngest son, Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) and sadly Jamal hits writer’s block and is unable to compose original music. “False Imposition” guest stars include Naomi Campbell as Camilla, Gabourey Sidibe as Becky, Ta’Rhonda Jones as Porsha, Nealla Gordon as Agent Harlow Carter, and Serayah as Tiana Brown.
