Preview The Originals season 2, episode 12 “Sanctuary” with the official synopsis and video sneak peeks. The new episode airs Monday, February 2 at 8:00pm ET|PT on The CW.
I can say with certainty that last week’s episode of The Originals (“Brotherhood of the Damned“) is in my top 3 favorite episodes of the show so far. Besides loving Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and getting a chance to learn more about his character, the history-buff in me really enjoyed experiencing World War I through the eyes of out favorite vampires. Of course Marcel would want the chance to go off to war to prove his mettle. It’s also no surprise that Klaus (Joseph Morgan) utilized any means necessary to keep Marcel within his sphere of influence. How dare Marcel forge another family with his comrades-in-arms when the Mikaelsons (specifically Klaus) should be all the family he needs! *SARCASM*
But what I enjoyed the most is seeing how, in past and present, Marcel rose to the challenge of leading those who depend on him. Even though his flashbacks were a result of a werewolf bite, it was so interesting to see Marcel meet Joe and the other Harlem Hellraisers, rise through the ranks to commanding officer, and eventually lead his regiment to battle against German attackers (after turning them into vampires). And in the present, once Vincent/Finn’s (Yusuf Gatewood) barrier around the Mikaelson compound dropped, Marcel similarly led his fellow vampires (who were afflicted with intense thirst) through crowds of locals across the river to their home. BRILLIANT.
Elsewhere, while Vincent/Finn had Klaus, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Kaleb/Kol’s (Daniel Sharman) consciousness trapped in a cabin with him, he figured out that Klaus must have some secret he’s protecting. During this time Elijah confessed to killing Tatia (Nina Dobrev) all those years ago and contrary to expectations, Klaus forgave him. Incidentally, this shift allowed for the breakdown of the Vincent/Finn’s magic.
We also found out that in order for Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Jackson’s (Nathan Parsons) wedding ceremony to take place, they’d have to perform a ritual and bare all their secrets to one another. Obviously, this was problematic for Hayley because of Baby Hope! By the end of the episode, Vincent/Finn had kidnapped Marcel in hopes of learning what Klaus is hiding, while Klaus was on his way to the bayou to ensure that Hayley didn’t divulge anything.
In tonight’s episode “Sanctuary,” directed by Matt Hastings and written by Declan de Barra and Michael Narducci:
After a series of strange encounters, Rebekah becomes intrigued by a mysterious girl who has recently arrived to the insane asylum. At the bayou, Hayley struggles with coming clean to Jackson about the secrets she’s keeping and is surprised when he shares his own secret involving Hayley’s parents. Meanwhile, after learning the details of a particular marriage ritual that Hayley and Jackson must complete, Klaus heads to the bayou to put an end to it, but not before running into Jackson’s grandmother Mary. Elsewhere, Vincent remains determined to uncover the secret he knows Klaus is hiding and sets his eyes on Marcel for answers. Lastly, when Davina discovers that Josh and Marcel are in danger, she enlists the help of Kaleb and Aiden to rescue them. (via The CW)
Take a look at this behind-the-scenes interview with Julie Plec and Michael Narducci discussing what we can expect in the upcoming show. Vincent has kidnapped Marcel, Josh, and other vampires and he’s channelling them. He’s determined to find Klaus’ secret and what better way to learn that from Klaus’ friend/protege/son. Meanwhile, Hayley is trying to figure out how to strike a balance between protecting her secrets while opening up to Jackson for the sake of their pre-marital ceremony. Finally, Rebekah (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) is still trapped in the asylum, searching for an escape, and possibly finding help from her new ghost-friend (who we know to be Freya):
Check out this clip from “Sanctuary” where Klaus arrives at the bayou and confronts Jackson’s grandmother (guest star Debra Mooney):
*sigh* Klaus is so menacing! Do you think he’ll be able to stop Hayley in time?
