Will Lady Violet confess to the family about why Edith has run away? Preview tonight’sĀ Downton Abbey Season 5 “Episode Seven” with video and photo sneak peeks, airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on PBS Masterpiece.
Last week’s “Episode Six” of Downton Abbey was filled with revelations as many our favorite characters made some pretty daring moves. We began with Edith (Laura Carmichael) finally getting confirmation that Mr. Gregson was killed in Adolf Hitler’s 1923 Munich Beer Hall Putsch. She also found out that she was to inherit Gregson’s publishing company. And it seemed that this was the catalyst Edith needed to make her move—she finally confronted Mrs. Drewe (Emma Lowndes), admitted to being Marigold’s mother, took her daughter, and ran off to London. I felt so relieved for Edith…it was painful to watch her try to get close to Marigold, but being at the Drewes mercy. Now, will Edith confess to her family?
Things were still cold between Robert (Hugh Bonneville) and Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) after he walked in on Mr. Bricker declaring his love, which lead to a pretty physical fight. But Cora nipped Robert’s anger in the bud by questioning whether he’d ever had a flirtation go to far. We all know that Robert had that brief tryst with a Downton maid in season 2! So gladly, he finally let his anger go.
We also found out that Thomas (Rob James-Collier) had been taking a “treatment” to help change his sexuality. But with help from Mrs. Baxter (Raquel Cassidy) and Dr. Clarkson (David Robb), he stopped with the medication after realizing that nothing could really change that part of him. Hopefully Thomas will start to look and feel better soon.
Speaking of Mrs. Baxter, the London detective investigating Mr. Green’s death can to question her about what she knew of the Bates/Anna/Green situation, which was very little. Elsewhere, Anna (Joanne Froggatt) and Bates (Brendan Coyle) finally had it out. Bates confessed to knowing that Green was the man who raped her, and that though he was upset, he did not travel to London or kill Mr. Green. Of course the evidenceĀ in the form of the intact train ticket was burned by Mary (Michelle Dockery) last season, in an attempt to protect Bates.
Even with all this drama, there was good news: Rose (Lily James) and Atticus (Matt Barber) were getting closer and meeting each other’s families. And Isobel (Penelope Wilton) had agreed to marry Lord Merton (Douglas Reith)!

In the clip, we see that Daisy’s (Sophie McShera) enthusiasm for her studies is waning, even though Mrs. Patmore (Lesley Nicol) and Mr. Molesley (Kevin Doyle) try to keep her motivated. And later on, Mrs. Baxter attempts to apologize to Anna and Bates for speaking ot the authorities about the Mr. Green situation:
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I absolutely despise the fact that, even in death, Mr. Green continues to terrorize Anna and Bates. He’s dead and I 100% believe he got what he deserved. Can’t Anna and Bates have their peaceful, happily-ever-after now?
