Annalise’s mother, Ophelia, comes to town in tonight’s How to Get Away with Murder, the last episode before the season finale. Get a sneak peek of the upcoming show, at 10:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
As I write this post and think about last week’s How to Get Away with Murder (“She’s A Murder“), I actually want to start with that shocking ending that I did NOT see coming. However, in the interest of propriety, let’s start from the beginning…
Like I speculated, Hannah Keating (Marcia Gary Harden) was intent on making life very difficult for her sister-in-law. When the police came to inform Annalise (Viola Davis) that Sam was dead, Hannah wasted no time (literally) pointing an accusatory finger at Annalise and demanding she be arrested for killing her brother.
At the same time Annalise was fending off Hannah and dealing with detectives/search warrants, she was doing damage control to prevent clients from jumping ship. This week’s case focussed on the Paul Lombardo (Karl Mackinen), a member of a powerful mob family who was caught transporting heroin during a random search of his crates. With help from Frank (Charlie Weber), Annalise was able to show in court that the the search was actually not so random—the employee admitted that the prosecutor and police told him to search Lombardo’s crate in exchange for a green card. Obviously, the evidence and case were thrown out.
In the midst of all this, the Keating 5 was freaking out, AGAIN. Connor (Jack Falahee) was particularly worried and doubtful of Annalise’s promise to help them. For whatever reason, Annalise was determine to protect her students and allay their fears. And she used Nate (Billy Brown) to do so by having Frank plant Nate’s fingerprint on Sam’s wedding ring and place it in the woods. WOWSA.
The episode ended with Nate being brought to the precinct and Annalise calling her mother, begging for her help.
*sidenote* Was it just me, or did Nate not really seem too surprised to be arrested for Sam’s murder? Also, I’m still incredibly curious about why Annalise was willing to go to these lengths to protect the Keating 5. Thoughts?
In tonight’s episode, “Mama’s Here Now,” written by Erika Green Swafford and Doug Stockstill, directed by Michael Listo, and guest-starring Tony Award-winning actress Cicely Tyson as Annalise’s mother, Ophelia:
Annalise is wracked with guilt and turns to an unlikely source for help. Meanwhile, Bonnie must step up and represent a new client accused of rape. (via ABC)
Watch this clip from the upcoming show: as the Keating 5 are discussing how/why Annalise would frame Nate to protect them, Bonnie (Liza Weil) informs them that Annalise is sick so she will be handling the new case.
WOW, Annalise is out of commission…the guilt from setting Nate up for Sam’s murder must really be taking the toll. And from all accounts, for her to reach out to her mother for help, is an unexpected move from Annalise.
