Lionsgate and Samsung are bringing the Insurgent – Shatter Reality virtual reality experience to fans across the U.S. Check out the details and list of dates and locations for when it’ll be coming near you!
The theatrical release of The Divergent Series: Insurgent is really right around the corner! With news about the World premiere in London on March 11, and the U.S. premiere set for New York City on March 16, I know we’re all eagerly awaiting the chance to see the film. Well, earlier this week Lionsgate shared some exciting news that’s sure to help us through the wait.
Lionsgate has teamed up with and Samsung to create the exclusive Insurgent – Shatter Reality virtual reality experience. Through the four-minute experience, fans will be able to spend time in the world of Divergent/Insurgent via the Samsung Gear VR, powered by the Galaxy Note 4.
Once fans put on the Gear VR headset, Insurgent – Shatter Reality fully immerses you in a 360 degree experience where you’re a member of the factioned society. You’ve been captured by Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet)/the Erudite and will be tested to determine the full extent of your divergence via a series of mental “simulations” and experimental serums. There’s even a fearscape that transports you from the heights of a Chicago skyscraper to facing off with a massive, fast-approaching train. Peter (Miles Teller) and Max (Mekhi Phifer) make an appearance too, though I can’t say that I believe this will be a positive development!
According to Lionsgate’s Chief Marketing Officer, Tim Palen:
“Virtual reality elevates the world of Divergent to a whole new level by creating a uniquely exciting and immersive experience for our fans. “The ‘INSURGENT – SHATTER REALITY’ experience reflects our commitment to partner with leading technology companies like Samsung to remain at the cutting edge of VR and other innovations that expand the worlds of our franchises and extend our storytelling in exciting new directions.”
Nick DiCarlo, Vice President and General Manager of Immersive Products & Virtual Reality at Samsung Electronics America, shares the excitement:
“As we push new boundaries in the world of technology and virtual reality, we are excited to continue our relationship with Lionsgate and bring Divergent fans a one-of-a-kind experience through Gear VR and Milk VR. This partnership will bring fans closer than ever to the action in this blockbuster series.”
Beginning February 27, 2015, Insurgent – Shatter Reality goes on tour in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, and San Francisco before going live across all platforms and app stores. The experience will also be available exclusively on Samsung’s Milk VR service though March 1.
And if you happen to be outside of the tour city stops, you’ll be able to view the experience on Samsung Gear VR over the weekend of March 7 – 8, 2015 at selected Best Buy stores across the U.S. Make sure to take a look at the full dates and locations for the national tour and Best Buy stops listed below!
