Dre celebrates his 40th birthday, but might not be too excited about getting older. Preview tonight’s black-ish “30 Something,” airing at 9:31pm ET|PT.
black-ish returns tonight with a new episode that will surely bring the funny to tonight’s Wednesday primetime lineup!
The last time we were with the Johnsons (“Parental Guidance“), Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross) were renewing their wedding vows. We finally met Bow’s parents Alicia (Anna Deveare Smith) and Beau (Beau Bridges), but they didn’t seem to get on well with Dre’s parents. There were barbs exchanged about who really participated in the Civil Rights Movement; Alicia took it upon herself to reveal to Zoey (Yara Shahidi) that her parents were married after she was born; and when they found out Dre and Bow’s first wedding may not be legal, the parentals didn’t seem to think Dre and Bow should really get married now. After threatening to just have a courthouse wedding, Pops (Laurence Fishburne) and Alicia were finally able to get the in-laws together to throw a beautiful wedding for Bow and Dre, officiated by Bishop Don Juan (LOL). But in the end, it turned out that their first wedding was still legal!
Well, the celebration continues in tonight’s episode “30 Something,” written by Courtney Lilly, directed by John Fortenberry, and guest-starring Jenifer Lewis as Mama Ruby and Jermaine Dupri as himself:
THINGS BEGIN TO FALL APART (IN MORE WAY THAN ONE) WHEN DRE FACES THE BIG 4-0—Things begin to fall apart, in more ways than one, when Dre hurts himself playing basketball right before his 40th birthday. He hands the planning of his big party over to his much younger, hipper assistant, fearing he really is getting too old to be cool. Bow and Ruby face off over who can get Dre the best gift, and the kids try to figure out what to give their dad for his special day. (via ABC)
The trailer and photo stills from the upcoming show (below) give a glimpse of the hilarity that’s to come—even though Dre is struggling a bit with getting older (and the kids certainly aren’t helping, LOL), it looks like they’ll have a great party celebrating him. And look out for Jermaine Dupri as the DJ!
YES, lots of fun to be had! Remember to tune into ABC at 9:31pm ET|PT for the new black-ish and join me over on twitter to live tweet the party!
