Nina Dobrev who brought Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries to the small screen is leaving the character behind after its sixth season.
A few months ago, rumors were circulating that one of the three principles (Nina Dobrev; Paul Wesley; Ian Somerhalder) of The Vampire Diaries hadn’t signed their Season 7 contract. Many were certain it was Paul Wesley who portrays Stefan Salvatore, but nothing was confirmed. Then images from crew members of The Vampire Diaries from a goodbye party at Lake Lanier in GA from this past weekend hit the Interwebs, many stating goodbye to Nina Dobrev and Michael Trevino. This caused a new fury of rumors to go around. However, it is rumor no more. Nina Dobrev announced she is leaving The Vampire Diaries this evening via social media.
I know this makes many of us sad, but let’s rejoice in the immense amount of joy Nina brought us in the role of Elena Gilbert, and wish her well in the multitude of adventures she will have in the future.
Now with Nina’s departure many questions are already circulating. Will the show begin to focus around another female protagonist and if so, who will it be? Or will the show revolve around Damon and Stefan Salvatore? Or around Stefan? At the moment only those in The Vampire Diaries camp has that answer. For now, we let the news sink in that Nina isn’t returning for season seven and we await her exclusive interview in the June issue of SELF magazine, where she will provide us with more details.

The Vampire Diaries returns with a new episode titled,”I Could Never Love Like That,” on April 16, 2015 on The CW at 8/7c.
On a similar note, Michael Trevino will no longer be a series regular on “The Vampire Diaries” after the sixth season. This information was confirmed via Executive Producer Julie Plec on various outlets, but we are awaiting an official notice from Michael before we do a full news posts. Michael Trevino is slated to be on ABC‘s “Revenge” spin-off “Kingmakers.”
