Now that MerDer is back on solid ground, might Owen and Amelia take their relationship to the next level? Preview tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy “Crazy Love” with video/photo sneak peeks.
At the end of “With Or Without You“, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) called on the post-it, Zola, Bailey, and all the MerDer sacred things to declare his love for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and beg her forgiveness for his momentary indiscretion with his DC research fellow. And Mer acknowledged that while she could like without Der, she didn’t want to. So last week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy (“When I Grow Up”) began with Derek returning to Seattle Grace for good! *WOOT*
In conversation with Maggie (Kelly McCreary), Mer realized that she had become one of the people she hated, those who achieved the life they’d always wanted: great family, handsome husband, awesome job, fabulous sex. Even Mer wanted to punch herself in the face.
With that said, Derek was trying to figure out how he now fit at the hospital, especially with Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) as the head of neurosurgery. He promised that he would submit to Amelia’s authority and be a team player…though she seriously doubted it.
Meanwhile, it was local 5th graders had taken a field-trip to visit the hospital and Chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) was showing them around—Amelia/Derek told the kids about brain surgery, Jackson (Jesse Williams)/Warren (Jason George) talked about the “plastics posse” (maybe that name wasn’t as cool as Jackson would have liked). And as they were with April (Sarah Drew) in Trauma/ER, two police officers (brothers, Pete and Brett) who had suffered gunshot wounds during an bank robbery were rushed in. All hands were needed on deck and Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) took over the responsibility keeping the kids from the scary stuff.
Unfortunately, Pete was declared brain-dead after his heart stopped for 14 minutes and his brain was deprived of oxygen for too long.
Later, Brett suffered a large stroke during surgery and was also declared brain-dead. Needless to say, their mother was devastated. Mrs. Gibson didn’t understand these outcomes. And how did the doctors ask to harvest the organs?
One of the robbery suspects (the alleged getaway driver, Jared) was also shot and rushed into the hospital. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben were doing his surgery and discovered that he needed a liver transplant. Amelia and Ben were critical of this suspect potentially getting to survive, while the two police officers wouldn’t. Things got even more complex when Bailey asked Mrs. Gibson to donate Brett’s liver to Jared. Mrs. Gibson was clearly outraged.
Dan Pruitt, Pete and Brett’s commanding officer (played by guest star Kevin Alejandro) had a hard time staying put. He and Callie (Sara Ramirez) seemed to make a connection, and apparently Dan and Brett knew the getaway driver and tried to help turn him around. In fact, according to Dan, Brett would want to help Jared…did this mean he would want to give him his liver? After Dan spoke to Mrs. Gibson, she agreed to donate her son’s liver and Jared survived. Even more so, the 37 people in the back robbery and 100 organ recipients would live because of Pete and Brett’s sacrifices.
In other developments: Edwards made a little love connection of her own with one the teacher-chaperones (Nick). She really wanted to give things a go with Nick, so she asked him out. He agreed …and then revealed that he was only 17 years old! (YIKES!); Jackson (as he prepared Pete/Brett’s bodies, post-organ donation) confided in April that he wanted to be a mentor just like Sloan took him under his wing;
In terms of the Owen (Kevin McKidd)/Amelia relationship: Amelia told Derek that she was falling inl ove with Owen and feared it would destroy her. Derek’s response? “It wouldn’t be love if it didn’t.” PERFECT. And as for Derek, himself, he was tired of missing his family. He didn’t need to change the world and, actually, saving someone’s life, even in mundane surgeries, was enough. So he would be here for the long-haul 🙂
In tonight’s episode “Crazy Love,” written by Elizabeth J.B. Klaviter, directed by Paul McCrane, and guest-starring Debbie Allen (Catherine Avery) and Erika Alexander:
MEREDITH DISCOVERS OWEN’S RELATIONSHIP WITH AMELIA—Upon realizing that Owen and Amelia have been seeing each other behind her back, Meredith comes down hard on her sister-in-law causing Amelia to rethink things. Meanwhile, Catherine springs into action when a man is brought into the hospital after his wife seeks revenge on his cheating ways. (via ABC)
Take a look at this clip from the upcoming show which features the incredibly interesting case of the week…a man, obviously hurt and bleeding, comes to the emergency room after his very angry wife takes matters into her own hands (so to speak) and tries to prevent her husband from cheating again:
Seriously, Shondaland shows have the BEST lines…”Why is your penis on a dead girl’s phone?” (from How to Get Away with Murder) and now “My wife cut off my penis”…that really catches your attention!
Tonight’s TGiT is also really special because we’re getting a Grey’s Anatomy double-feature! At 8:00pm ET|PT the first episode ever is airing, followed by the new show “Crazy Love”. It’s going to be great to be able to watch and live tweet the series premiere episode and see all the characters that have since left (especially since we weren’t able to do it the first time around). Then, with the new show airing right afterwards, we’ll get a chance to see how how our fave characters *cough*MerDer*cough* have grown.
Remember to tune into ABC at 8:00pm ET|PT for the two Grey’s Anatomy episodes and join me over on twitter to live tweet as we watch!
