Team SwanQueen heads to NYC to save Robin Hood and find Lily. Preview tonight’s Once Upon a Time episode “Lily”, airing at 8:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
Last week’s episode (“Sympathy for De Vil”) picked up with a flashback to Cruella (Victoria Smurfit) as a young woman, locked away in the attic by her mother. She’d been there for years, completely bored. One evening while they were arguing, there was a knock at the door…it was the Author (Patrick Fischler) posing as a newspaper writer. He wanted to write a story about how the mother was the best dog trainer in London. The Author tried to learn about her personal life, but she got agitated and threw him out. Before he left, Cruella (from her window) stopped him. In exchange for helping her escape, she would give the Author a good story.
Once they escaped, they drove went to a nightclub where Cruella told the Author that her mother poisoned her husbands. Afterwards, she was able to encourage him to really experience life. They smiled, danced, and she kissed him. It was a memorable night…the Author made it more memorable by showing Cruella his enchanted pen and ink. He wanted to use it to whisk them away so they could be together. To start, the Author gave her magic so that no matter where she was she’d be safe…now Cruella had control over any animal she desired. But before they could leave, she wanted to confront her mother first. Cruella took the caddy and would meet him at their hotel later.
At the hotel, there was a knock at his door, but it was Cruella’s mother looking for her daughter. She said that it was, in fact, Cruella herself who killed her husbands. She also warned the Author to stay away before Cruella destroyed what he loved…and when he checked for his pen and ink, they were gone.
Back at the house, Cruella put her mother’s dalmatians under her control and commanded them to kill. When the Author got there, she was sewing herself new clothes…and a coat made out of the dalmatians’ fur. He was scandalized. The Author tried to recover the pen and ink and as he and Cruella struggled, the ink spilled on her hair, turning it from blonde to black. But the Author had enough to write one more note…he took away the thing she loved the most…
In the present, Cruella was driving in Storybrooke, but was stopped by Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) who asked about her daughter, Lily. Cruella and Ursula had fallen through the portal that also took Lily to New York, even though Cruella told Maleficent her daughter hadn’t survived. It turned out that they dumped baby Lily in the woods and used the magic in the dragon egg to maintain their youth. Maleficent was NOT happy to hear this and turned into a dragon. However Cruella put her under her spell. Today, Cruella meant to get her happy ending from the Author.
Meanwhile, Rumple (Robert Carlyle) had the Author (Isaac) in custody and took him to his cabin. Now that the Author was in Storybrooke, Rumple meant to turn Emma (Jennifer Morrison) dark. When Cruella returned to the cabin, it was clear she and Isaac knew one another. She demanded that the Author give back what he took. He refused to help her…and threatened to expose that Cruella lied about knowing who he was.
Belle (Emilie de Ravin) called Rumple away and asked him to tell her the truth of why he was back in Storybrooke. He showed her that his heart was almost completely black…and when that happened, he would lose any ability to love. Only one man could reverse the process, the Author. Belle said that she understood and they embraced one another and kissed…until she said that Will was a better kisser and called Rumple pathetic for crawling back to her (WHATTTT?!) Why was she saying this? Regina (Lana Parrilla) had Belle’s heart and was controlling her. Rumple promised to make Regina suffer. She threatened to squeeze Belle’s heart. Regina was off to NYC and if Rumple told Zelena, she would crush Belle’s heart.
When Rumple came back to the cabin and met the Author he revealed that he’d known about the previous acquaintances with Cruella. It was essential to his plans. Cruella kidnapped the Savior’s son and wanted the Author killed…this was her happy ending. So, Rumple needed to know what exactly Isaac had written about Cruella to trigger this reaction. Isaac showed Rumple what he wrote…
While Cruella was distracted by a game of Angry Birds, Henry (Jared Gilmore) used a nearby piece of broken glass to cut his restraints and run. Cruella and Pongo took off after him. They cornered Henry near a cliff, but Emma came across them.
Elsewhere, Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming (Josh Dallas) found the Author at the cabin. All this time Isaac was just trying to save the world from Cruella. He didn’t know Rumple would use her like this…and now the story only had one ending, with the Savior going dark. What was on the note he’d written all that time ago: “Cruella De Vil can no longer take the life of another.” So Henry wasn’t in any danger…but Emma didn’t know that!
Back at the cliff, Emma didn’t hesitate before blasting Cruella and sending her flying to her death…
In tonight’s episode “Lily”, written by Andrew Chambliss and Dana Horgan, directed by Ralph Hemecker, and guest-starring Agnes Bruckner as Lily, Patrick Fischler as Isaac/the Author, Rebecca Mader as Zelena, and Sean Maguire as Robin Hood:
CAN IT BE THEIR PARENTS’ ACTIONS THAT FOREVER ENTWINED EMMA’S AND LILY’S FATES?—Emma’s potential for darkness is looming over everyone, but when Emma realizes Maleficent’s daughter Lily is in fact her closest friend from her foster care days, she resolves to find Lily and reunite her with her mother. Regina joins forces with Emma and together they set out to track down Lily and to warn Robin about Zelena. However, neither of them is prepared for the harsh realities they’ll encounter in the outside world. Meanwhile, in Storybrooke, Gold faces a crisis involving Belle. In a foster care flashback, things are looking up for young Emma with her new family until Lily’s appearance threatens to destabilize everything. (via ABC)
Take a look at these two sneak peeks from the upcoming show. In the first video, Regina finds Emma as she’s looking up information about Lily’s location. Since Regina needed to go to NYC to rescue Robin, would Emma consider coming along to help? And in the second clip, Emma and Regina have arrived in New York and are in a pretty run-down apartment building…possibly where Lily is living:
First, SwanQueen for the win! And second, that’s terrible if Lily is really dead…just as Emma was about to reunite with her only friend!
