With news that Jamie has been captured by Red Coats, Claire and Jenny set out from Lallybroch to find him. Preview Outlander episode “The Search”, airing Saturday, May 9 at 9:00pm ET|PT on STARZ.
This will sound pretty redundant of last week’s sneak peek post, but here goes: So…how about that ending??? “The Watch” was an episode full of angst and tension! Taran MacQuarrie (Douglas Henshall) and his men had descended on Lallybroch and took quite an interest in Jamie (Sam Heughan). But JAMMF was playing it cool. He took Jenny (Laura Donnelly), Ian (Steven Cree), and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) advice to lay low. So what if there was a fight where Jamie bested three or four men, it was fine!
That was until Mr. Horrocks (Lochlann O’Mearáin) showed up and threatened to turn him over to the Red Coats unless Jamie paid for his passage to the New World. Ian and Jamie quickly took care of that, and if I’m being honest, Horrocks was a despicable man and got what he deserved with that sword to the chest. Everything was OK now, right? Well not quite…MacQuarrie invited (read: coerced) Jamie and Ian into attending a raid of the Chisholm rent party, and when they arrived, it was all a ruse. The Red Coats descended and only Ian and one of MacQuarrie’s men made it back to Lallybroch. Jamie was now a captive of the British Army.
With that said, I do think it’s important to point out that there were a few sweet moments: first, Jenny had a baby girl, Margaret, and didn’t die in childbirth as she feared. Then when Claire confided in Jamie about her fear that she might not be able to have children, he was incredibly kind and comforting. And it was great to watch Jamie and Ian reaffirm their friendship (For a full recap with gifs, head over HERE.)
Alas, the episode ended with an overwhelming sense of dread and desperation…search for Jamie was on.
This Saturday’s episode picks up with Jenny and Claire making preparations to leave Lallybroch and find Jamie. In “The Search” written by Matthew B. Roberts and directed by Metin Hüseyin:
Claire and Jenny set out to rescue Jamie from his redcoat captors. When Murtagh joins up, Jenny returns home to her family while Claire and the Highlander employ unorthodox tactics to send word to Jamie. When word finally arrives, the news is not what anyone had hoped for. (via STARZ)
While I’ll be very glad to be back in the company of Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) and our other favorite Highlanders, these are absolutely terrible circumstances. I mean Jenny just had a baby and here she is taking off to search for Jamie. Of course Claire is devastated…if Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) gets a hold of Jamie…
Take a look at this clip from “The Search”—Claire and Jenny have captured a Red Coat, and Jenny is not about using torture to extract the information they need about Jamie’s whereabouts:
WOWSA. This is an epic case of “good cop, bad cop” and that Red Coat needs to watch who he’s calling a harlot/slut!
Well Sassenachs, we’ve reached the point of no return. The next two to three episodes will difficult, but I’m actually really excited to see how Sam, Cait, Tobias, and the rest of the cast portray these set of events. I have no doubt that their performances will be phenomenally compelling.
