In tonight’s season finale, Klaus’ plan to defeat Dahlia comes to fruition. Unfortunately, he might have done irreparable damage the his relationship with his siblings. Preview The Originals “Ashes to Ashes”, airing at 8:00pm ET|PT on The CW.
In last week’s The Originals (“Fire with Fire“), we saw Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) alliance with Dahlia (Claudia Black) wreak a lot of havoc.
After his brief stint being daggered, Klaus needed a good bit of blood to replenish himself. With a party in the Quarter, Dahlia was happy to provide her nephew with a buffet. Later on, Dahlia was angry that Klaus was taking too long to go after Hope. She would take the child with him. But Klaus assured her that he knew exactly what he was doing and had something special intended to punish Hayley that was worse than death. Dahlia ended the storm and they began.
Back at the Mikaelson compound, Rebekah (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) had successfully unlinked herself from the other teen witches. Now they could turn their energy to defeating Dahlia. Since Freya (Riley Voelkel) would be the bait, Rebekah would help create the illusion of Hope’s presence (with a golem). Once Dahlia arrived, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) would kill her with the freshly made weapon (Mikael’s knife). Should they fail, Davina (Danielle Campbell, who would be regent of all nine covens) would take up the fight. At this point, Elijah and Rebekah finally realized Klaus was gone and that Dahlia had helped him.
With the witches, the Treme coven weren’t open to Davina’s leadership. She was a part of the failed Harvest ritual AND she sided with vampires. But Davina was able to convince them that she was strong enough to go up against any of their enemies: “the question is ‘what the hell would you do without me?'”. At her “inauguration” ceremony, Davina declared it the “time of the witches”.
Elsewhere, Klaus and Dahlia made their way to Algiers and tortured Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Gia (Nishi Munshi). Klaus had a plan to bring use his siblings’ weaknesses against them. When Klaus and Dahlia arrived at the Mikaelson compound, Freya pretended to offer “Hope” to her Aunt in exchange for freedom. When Elijah attacked, Klaus stopped him. At the same time Marcel, who was compelled by Klaus, cornered Rebekah (thereby destroying the Baby Hope illusion). Elijah tried to appeal to his brother, and when that didn’t work, to fight him. He watched as Klaus compelled Gia to take off her daylight ring and burn to death. Then Klaus daggered Elijah. Cami (Leah Pipes) arrived and also tried to convince Klaus to stop, but he attacked her and drank her blood. Elijah and Cami were both incapacitated and Marcel was compelled to kill Rebekah if she tried to leave the compound.
In the bayou, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), Hope, and Jackson (Nathan Parsons) were hunkered down in Dahlia’s storm and preparing to run. Hayley didn’t want to risk any more of the wolves’ lives, so she tried to step down as their queen. However, the pack disagreed and continued with them. Jackson also reaffirmed his desire to stay by Hayley’s side, no matter what. They’d finally holed up at junkyard trying to decide their next move…
…then Klaus and Dahlia arrived. Grandma Mary (Nathan Parsons) took Hope and ran while Jackson, Hayley, and the wolves stayed to fight. It was brutal, but just as Klaus promised, he had something even worse than death planned. He had Dahlia reinstate the crescent curse, trapping Hayley and her pack in wolf form except for one night on the full moon.
With the Mikaelsons, Marcel tried to fight the compulsion but was failing. So Rebekah killed herself (hoping to return to her original body). Cami eventually awoke and was able to remove the dagger from inside Elijah’s chest. She also revealed that Klaus *did* have a bigger plan to save Hope from Dahlia. Klaus would convince his Aunt to link herself to him to break her sleep spell.
In tonight’s season finale episode “Ashes to Ashes” written by Christopher Hollier and Diane Ademu-John, directed by Matt Hastings, and with Claire Holt‘s return as Rebekah Mikaelson:
EVERYTHING WE LOVE, WE TURN TO ASH—With time running out, Klaus’ ultimate plan to protect baby Hope at all costs continues to take shape. As tensions between the siblings come to a head, Cami reveals a vital piece of information that causes Elijah and Rebekah to reconsider their plan of attack against Dahlia. Davina finds herself one step closer to fulfilling the promise she made to Kol, while Freya is forced to take drastic measures to protect herself against Dahlia. Elsewhere, Marcel has to put aside his fury at Klaus in order to protect himself and everyone in their sire line. Meanwhile, Vincent finds himself torn between the prospects of a magic-free life away from New Orleans and a personal obligation to protect Davina. Finally, with their risky plan in place, the Mikaelson siblings prepare for the fight of their lives. (via The CW)
For the last time in season 2, Julie Plec and Michael Narducci take us inside the upcoming show. “Ashes to Ashes” will bring this season’s storyline full circle. How will the Mikaelsons be able to protect Hope and defeat Dahlia? And even if they do, will the family be able to forgive one another?
Goodness, Elijah is SO upset, but truth be told, I would be too. And we haven’t even seen what Hayley may/may not do to Klaus for his seeming betrayal. Watch this clip from the episode that gives us a glimpse into Klaus’ master plan to stop Auntie Dahlia:
Well, we shall see what happens. In any event, it’s great to see Claire Holt back as Rebekah (even though I adored Maisie Richardson-Sellers!). Take a look at these photo stills from the season finale and make sure to tune into The CW at 8:00pm ET|PT for the final The Originals of the season. I’ll be live tweeting so come watch with me!
