Black Jack is back, but Claire is determined to do whatever it takes to save Jamie…even face the devil (BJR) himself. Preview Outlander episode “Wentworth Prison”, airing Saturday, May 16 at 9:00pm ET|PT on STARZ.
Sassenachs, last week’s episode of Outlander was tough. It was very important that Claire (Caitriona Balfe), Jenny (Laura Donnelly), and Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) remained positive and optimistic about the prospects of finding Jamie (Sam Heughan). With that said, the uncertainty was disheartening. Even when we found out that Jamie had escaped from the Red Coats and was in hiding, we had no idea whether word of Claire and Murtagh’s traveling performance was reaching him. Of course the intellectual property infringing gypsies didn’t help (*RAGE*). And when Claire arrived at Glenrowan Cross only to hear Dougal’s (Graham McTavish) news of Jamie’s impending hanging and then incredibly inappropriate marriage proposal, it seemed all was lost.
But remember when Jamie left Lallybroch with The Watch? Claire promised to follow and drag him back home by his red hair if need be. And she would now have to descend into the depths of Wentworth Prison in order to do so…thankfully, Murtagh, Willie (Finn Den Hertog), Rupert (Grant O’Rourke), and Angus (Stephen Walters) would be by her side. That last scene with the five of them gazing at the prison fortress…*chills*chills*chills* (For a full recap of “The Search” with gifs and new images, head over HERE.)
Well after his total absence from “The Search”, Saturday night’s episode picks right up with Jamie. In “Wentworth Prison” written by Ira Steven Behr, directed by Anna Foerster, and guest-starring Frazer Hines (Sir Fletcher Gordon, governor of Wentworth Prison):
Jamie awaits his death sentence at Wentworth Prison, while Claire and the Highlanders desperately search for a rescue plan. Will they be able to free Jamie before he falls into the clutches of Black Jack? (via STARZ)
Watch this clip from the upcoming show where Claire meets with Sir Gordon, who refuses to allow Jamie to write a letter. Instead he gives her Jamie’s personal effects:
Did you see the SAWNY carving??? *weeping*
Interestingly, Frazer Hines has an old link to the Outlander series. When Diana Gabaldon was ruminating about her first novel, a Doctor Who episode with a young Scotsman from 1745 (the Doctor’s companion) served as inspiration. In fact, JAMMF is named after Frazer Hines and his Doctor Who character (Jamie MacCrimmon)!*** (Go HERE to watch part of the “Looking For A Time and Place” featurette where Diana talks more about this.)
If you take a look at the photo stills below we also get glimpses of Claire and the Highlanders trying to decide the best approach, as well as Jamie with other prisoners and Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) in Wentworth.
Fellow Sassenachs, the time has come for us to gather in a fandom prayer circle and embrace one another as we watch the last two episodes of this season. Seeing images of Jamie and BJR in Wentworth…goodness, the anxiety and stress is enough to overwhelm you! But again, no matter what, Jamie and Claire’s love will see them (and us) through the worst.
