Lionsgate releases the first official teaser trailer from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, coming to theaters November 20, 2015. Join the Revolution!
Last week, we started getting cryptic messages on social media that something big would be coming for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 today (Tuesday, June 9). We got a new poster featuring the wreckage of President Snow’s statue. Three first looks at Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, and Gale Hawthorne were also released via the official Facebook pages of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth along with “6.9.15 #MockingjayPart2 #UNITE”. There was some speculation that we might hear directly from the Mockingjay herself…maybe in a propo. Could we even get the first trailer?
Well Tributes, today is the day, and it’s been well worth the wait! Earlier this afternoon Lionsgate released the first teaser trailer for Mockingjay Part 2 and it’s just as emotional and evocative as we’ve been expecting.
The trailer (below) begins with a celebration around Finnick (Sam Claflin) and Annie’s (Stef Dawson) wedding, and (perhaps surprisingly, given the ongoing conflict) there’s joy and laughter. Yet, Katniss is still angry and adamant that President Snow (Donald Sutherland) pay for what he’s done. Her message is that we continue the revolution and unite against The Capitol:
That is AMAZING! Goodness, Katniss is angry, and she’s ready to marshall that rage against President Snow. I love that we get glimpses of Katniss with Prim (Willow Shields, dancing at the wedding *CRIES*), Effie (Elizabeth Banks), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Gale, and Peeta. But we also know that her calls to “turn your weapons against The Capitol” come at great personal cost. When President Snow says that the game isn’t over…and Finnick: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 76th Hunger Games.” *SHIVERS*
