Live from the set of Independence Day Resurgence in New Mexico, cast and creators share new details about what fans can expect from the upcoming sequel.
The 4th of July is right around the corner, and many Americans will celebrate the holiday by heading to theaters to see the latest blockbuster film. For over a decade, that film almost always starred Will Smith. And if you’ll recall, “Big Willie Weekend” launched with the 1996 movie Independence Day.
Given that we’re in an age of remakes and reboots, it’s no surprise that we’ll soon return to the Independence Day universe with the upcoming sequel Independence Day Resurgence!
Yesterday, the film’s director/producer/writer Roland Emmerich was joined by returning and new cast members for a live Q&A (Independence Day Live Stream) hosted by VSauce3. Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward were all present.
In addition to revealing the sequel’s official title, cast and creators discussed IDR’s plot details, especially since Will Smith won’t be reprising his role as Captain Steven Hiller. Rather, the story emerges in a post-conflict era as we follow a new attempt to protect Earth from future alien attacks.
Take a look at official motion title graphic as well as a 3-minute video of the IDR live stream highlights, plus 15+ exclusive images (courtesy of 20th Century FOX/AP Images and Eric Charbonneau/Invision):
