Lionsgate shares new “Love is Love” posters and trailer in anticipation of their upcoming drama Freeheld, an inspiring story of true love and the fight for equality.
This summer, as the U.S. Supreme Court upheld marriage equality as the law of the land, “Love is Love” serves as a unifying anthem of support and celebration. With that said, Lionsgate’s upcoming film Freeheld arrives at just the right time to remind us of the long journey and bravery that (finally) brought us to this watershed moment.
Freeheld tells the inspiring true love story of New Jersey police detective Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore) and her domestic partner Stacie Andree’s (Ellen Page) fight for equality. Once diagnosed with terminal cancer, Laurel is determined to leave her hard earned pension with Stacie, but the county officials stand strong to prevent this from happening.
Take a look at the new trailer and “Love is Love” character posters and in anticipation for this emotional and compelling release:
Freeheld is out in theaters for limited release on October 2, 2015 and then nation-wide on October 16.
Based on the Oscar-winning short documentary and adapted by the writer of Philadelphia, Freeheld is the true love story of Laurel Hester [Julianne Moore] and Stacie Andree [Ellen Page] and their fight for justice. A decorated New Jersey police detective, Laurel is diagnosed with cancer and wants to leave her hard earned pension to her domestic partner, Stacie. However the county officials, Freeholders, conspire to prevent Laurel from doing this. Hard-nosed detective Dane Wells [Michael Shannon], and activist Steven Goldstein [Steve Carell], unite in Laurel and Stacie’s defense, rallying police officers and ordinary citizens to support their struggle for equality.
