Doctor Who returns in a couple of days. Let’s get a quick overview and check out the promotional materials that BBC America has blessed us with.
Season 9 of Doctor Who returns to BBC America on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 9/8c and we have been impatiently waiting since the season 8 finale of “Death in Heaven” aired. Now we get to see Peter Capaldi return for his second season as the Doctor alongside Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman). We await what journeys the Doctor and Clara will embark on in the TARDIS.
Word has that season 9 of Doctor Who will take viewers to more deadly alien planets, hidden alien dens, Viking villages, underwater to a creepy base, we will see a global Zygon uprising, and “to the very end of time itself.” This all sounds amazing, but I’m most ready to see the Doctor face-off with Missy (Michelle Gomez), and of course a few Daleks! Regardless if the enemies or monsters are old or new, we know that we have a ton of goodness ready to be thrust upon us.
Writing of new, it was announced at Comic Con International: San Diego in July 2015 that Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, will come aboard as a guest star for Doctor Who season 9. It will be interesting to see what role she plays alongside or against the Doctor and Jenna. We know that Missy is back, but also are our UNIT badasses Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) and Osgood (Ingrid Oliver). BBC America stated in a press release that “also confirmed as guest cast in the new season are Reece Shearsmith, Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Elaine Tan, Neet Mohan, Bethany Black, Paul Courtenay Hyu, Joivan Wade and Sophie Stone.”
The new season has been written by lead writer Steven Moffat, Toby Whithouse, Jamie Mathieson, Peter Harness, Mark Gatiss, and new writers to Doctor Who – Sarah Dollard and Catherine Tregenna; directed by Hettie Macdonald, Daniel O’Hara, Ed Bazalgette, Daniel Nettheim, Justin Molotnikov, Rachel Talalay; and produced by Tracie Simpson, Derek Ritchie, Nikki Wilson and Peter Bennett.
