Doctor Who returns tonight with a two-part episode to open up season 9. Let’s get a sneak peek into the season premiere and see what goodness is coming our way beginning at 9/8c on BBC America.
When we last left the series with the Doctor Who Christmas special, “Last Christmas,” we saw the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman) finally admit the truth: Gallifrey is still lost, and Danny Pink (Samuel Anderson) is still gone. Once the truth was revealed, the Doctor and Clara went off into the TARDIS for more adventures in time and space. Now Doctor Who returns to BBC America at 9/8c with a season 9 two-part opener: “The Magician’s Apprentice” that concludes next Saturday, September 26 with “The Witch’s Familiar”.
In the tonight’s season 9 premiere episode, we will see the Doctor face off against an old foe, but as always he will do so with the utmost style and now with some Rock ‘N’ Roll edge. Get a look for yourself with the official trailer for “The Magician’s Apprentice”, followed by the synopsis for the episode.
“Where is the Doctor?” When the skies of Earth are frozen by a mysterious alien force, Clara needs her friend. But where is the Doctor, and what is he hiding from? As past deeds come back to haunt him, old enemies will come face-to-face, and for the Doctor and Clara survival seems impossible. (via BBC America)
In the trailer did you see Missy holding the disc with the Gallifrey design? That disc is the last will and testament of the Doctor. “The Magician’s Apprentice” and “The Witch’s Familiar” were written by lead writer and showrunner Steven Moffat and directed by Hettie Macdonald. So it makes us wonder if Steven Moffat is introducing a new mystery arc for the season in the premiere episode? Wouldn’t put it past him.
The two-part Doctor Who season 9 opener will probably require multiple viewings, but we are ready for it. Let’s close out our sneak peek with promotional stills from Doctor Who: Season 9, Episode 1 “The Magician’s Apprentice”, along with the prologue from the episode, followed by two behind-the-scenes videos were Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman tell us more about the Doctor’s guitar, then Michelle Gomez, Peter Capaldi, and Steven Moffat discuss Missy and the Doctor’s friendship.
Season 9 of Doctor Who looks like it will be fantastic, and the start off with “The Magician’s Apprentice” will for sure keep us on the edge of our seats.
