Thanks to Entertainment Weekly and People.com exclusives, we can preview THREE songs from Outlander Television Soundtrack, Volume 2.
The first is the extended version of The Skye Boat Song, Outlander’s intro/main title (via Entertainment Weekly). In a blog post, composer Bear McCreary said the following:
I always wanted to explore producing a longer version, and finally found the time to tackle the concept while scoring the last episode. I rearranged the song from scratch, specifically for this new album, and brought all the musicians and Raya [Yarbrough] back into the studio to perform it. I think the extended “Skye Boat Song” benefitted from my time away from the material. I took all the knowledge and inspiration I had accumulated over sixteen episodes, nearly a year of work, and applied it to the tune that was one of the first pieces I tackled when I started the show. Scoring the first season of Outlander changed me on a fundamental level, and these two versions of “Skye Boat Song” represent that journey.
EW also shared Charge of the Highland Cattle, from “To Ransom a Man’s Soul“, when Murtagh, Angus, Rupert, and 19 cattle storm Wentworth Prison to save Jamie from Black Jack Randall’s clutches.
Finally, you can also listen to The Key to Lallybroch, from “The Reckoning“, which plays during Jamie and Claire’s HOTTTTTTT make-up sex scene at the end of the episode. In the accompanying interview with People.com, Bear says:
To me, this track is one of the most complete statements of the Claire and Jamie Theme that I ever wrote for the first season. Their reunion – and subsequent steamy sex scene – at the episode’s conclusion is all the more poignant because we’ve seen them at their breaking points.
Aren’t these songs amazing?! This music always makes me feel such nostalgia for the show. I’m definitely enjoying the music from Season 1, but I can’t help but to be excited for what Bear and his team have in store for us in Outlander‘s second season as well!
Starting October 2, fans will also be able to purchase the Outlander Season One Soundtrack Collection, which has music from the whole season on a two-disc album. You can pre-order yours HERE.
