Pandora and her box have some evil planned for Sleepy Hollow! Get a sneak peek of tonight’s episode, airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on FOX.
In last week’s Sleepy Hollow premiere, we learned that the peaceful hiatus was over and Team Witness had a new evil and prophecy to contend with.
“I Witness” began with us witnessing the (seeming) demise of Headless/Abraham. As he was riding through the woods at night, a mysterious woman with an enchanted box froze Headless, transported him through some portal, while speaking an incantation in Greek. Now that she’d provided the power of death (via Headless), she expected FEAR in return. And Fear came to her embodied in a red monster.
We flashed to Abby in the midst of serious detective work. Nine months after the events of last season’s finale, she was now an FBI Special Agent and confronting a run-away informant for a big case (Anaconda, a multi-state drug trafficking ring; boss Lorenzo Chang was staging a meeting that the FBI meant to bust).
In the midst of this Abby received a phone call notifying her to report to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Ichabod was being held for attempting to bring in restricted materials from abroad. Abby hadn’t heard from him in nearly a year and was pretty peeved at the disappearance act. In fact, Ichabod had been at ICE for five days and only reached out to Abby because of an impending problem.
The night before, during a therapy session with a fellow detainee (Jesus), he realized Katrina’s necklace (which he kept out of sentiment). The necklace had been spiritually linked to Abraham and now all the energy had drained from it. This meant something had happened to Horseman of Death and there were dark forces in motion.
Abby wasn’t convinced. She thought that maybe after losing Katrina and Jeremy, Ichabod was inventing a mission to give him purpose. The Bible prophesied that the Witnesses must endure seven trials…with the death of Moloch, they’d only finished the first. And when they were called to the site of a double-murder (a remote cabin in the woods), Ichabod used dragons-breath to confirm that demonic activity was present. Evil had returned to Sleepy Hollow.
Back at the archives, Jenny joined Abby and Ichabod to conduct research. Forensic analysis confirmed a residue found at the murder site was cinnabar. Bestiary texts confirmed that the demon responsible was a Yao-guai, a creature that manipulated and fed of fear. Someone (the mysterious woman from before) had summoned the monster to town. Interestingly, Ichabod had some experience with the Yao-guai. During the Battle of Bunker Hill, he and fellow Betsy Ross delivered a message from George Washington to the military leaders at Bunker Hill with information about how to defeat the demon. (These flashbacks were AWESOME! The tet-a-tet AND KISS between Icahabod and Betsy were great. Ichabod clearly has experience with badass female partners 😉 )
Abby and Ichabod were able to track down the message, which was now on display as an artifact at Colonial Times. (Needless to say, Ichabod was shocked that America’s glorious history was commodified as an eatery!) They stole/borrowed the satchel and message, which Ichabod was able to decipher. They learned that the Yao-guai would be drawn to the FBI Anaconda bust. Unfortunately, the demon did show up and killed Special Agent Mitch Granger, Abby’s partner. In the process, Abby found the Yao-guai’s weakness; it could be put down when its eyes turned white.
Elsewhere, Lorenzo Chang had taken hostages. He was being blamed for Agent Granger’s death and no one believed him about the Yao-guai. Abby tried to talk him down, but the situration escalated. Once again the demon was drawn to the gunfire and energy. Ichabod tried to distract the demon so Jenny could kill the monster when she saw the whites of its eyes; however she fumbled with the rifle. The Yao-guai went after Ichabod and almost killed him, but Abby shot it right in time. Team Witness FTW!
Later, Ichabod and Abby picked up the parcel ICE confiscated. When he traveled to his ancestral home in Scotland, Ichabod found an ancient, 4,000-year old Sumerian tablet hidden in the family crypt. The tablet foretold the legend of Sleepy Hollow and depicted two people who looked like Abby and Ichabod! What did this mean?
While having a celebratory drink, Abby came face-to-face with the woman who we know seized Headless. She introduced herself as Pandora. It was clear that she and her box were going to cause some big trouble…
In tonight’s episode “Whispers in The Dark”, with Shannyn Sossamon as Pandora:
ABBIE AND CRANE FACE THEIR DEMONS—When Pandora uses her powers to unleash a new form of evil, Abbie and Crane are forced to face their pasts in unexpected ways. (via FOX)
It seems that last week was only the beginning of what Pandora has in mind for Sleepy Hollow…as if a fear-manipulating demon isn’t enough!
This week will also feature the debut (and return) of two characters: FBI Special Agent Daniel Reynolds (Lance Gross), Abby’s new boss, and Joe Corbin (Zach Appleman), son of Abby and Jenny’s mentor, Sheriff August Corbin.
