The Senate impeachment hearings begin and Cyrus comes up with a plan to help them all (*spoiler alert* OLITZ WEDDING BELLS). Watch a sneak peek of tonight’s Scandal, airing at 9:00pm ET|PT on ABC.
In last week’s Scandal, both the White House and OPA prepared to deal with the forthcoming assault from the (bipartisan) Senate Judiciary Committee’s impeachment hearings. Since Fitz and Liv had both been subpoenaed, David encouraged him to get a lawyer to help navigate the political trial. David recommended Patty Snell as an attorney, and once we met her, we could see why. Patty came in ready to work—Fitz would testify and “cooperate fully”, meaning burying the committee in documents.
Similarly, Liv reached out to Leo Bergen for help handling the optics and limit the damage from the fallout. According to Leo, the best strategy was to promote the Olitz relationship as the greatest romance ever told. At first, Liv wanted her contributions to be the center of the story. So the team began to spin “Olivia Pope: Woman of the People”. Liv needed to get rid of the couture, go grocery shopping like an every-woman (no more wine and popcorn), and reach out to Senator Edison Davis to be her surrogate in the media. Edison eventually agreed to do an interview and highlight Liv’s character, but he wanted his pound of flesh first (criminal, whore, idiot, liar…): he wanted the whole truth.
However, Leo eventually had his way when sources (MELLIE) leaked to the media that Fitz had given Liv his great-grandmother’s diamond ring. Now Liv *had* to do a one-on-one interview espousing the Olitz love. Liv sat sown for the interview and had an interesting conversation. She admitted to loving Fitz very much, but was all the pain that they and their loved ones were enduring worth it?
Elsewhere, Marcus was secretly approached by Senators Moskowitz and Gibson: if he didn’t provide information against Liv, they would investigate him and his family. Marcus “agreed” to help, but it was a ruse. He was able to get a photo of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s evidence log, which included CIA logs. But if the committee had the tape of Liv’s kidnapping, they were all in trouble…what if they found out Fitz went to war in West Angola to save her? That was an impeachable offense. Liv went to David, but he wasn’t too worried, as long as no one could corroborate that Fitz had seen the video. Liv shared all this with Fitz during the HOTTTTEST sexy times scene, and we found out that Cyrus was the wild card. But would Cy cover Fitz’s tracks?
As this all went on, Cyrus and Mellie sat in sweats with wine and brownies to watch “the day the Lord has made” unfold. Mellie was forced to resign from the committee (conflict of interest) and was looking for an ally. Unfortunately for her, that ally would NOT be Cyrus. When he was called to the White House to meet with Fitz, Cy jumped at the opportunity. Fitz tried to offer an advisory position to bring him back into the fold, but Cyrus saw through it all. He was angry that Fitz didn’t really care about him, whereas all Cy thought about was Fitz’s happiness. Yet, Fitz surprised us all. He *knew* Cyrus (e.g. Cy’s love of his mother, Helen). Fitz apologized profusely, after all, Cy was his guy. And the band was back together!
(*SIDENOTE* This scene was brilliant. BRILLIANT. It was like watching two estranged brothers reuniting. Also, Cyrus is a political ANIMAL!)
Tonight’s episode, “Get Out of Jail, Free” was written by Chris Van Dusen and directed by Chandra Wilson—AKA our darling Bailey from Grey’s Anatomy. Read the official synopsis below:
Fitz and Olivia are presented with a shocking plan that might just make all of their troubles go away, and Mellie is put through the ringer when confronted about her troubled marriage. Meanwhile, the Gladiators continue to defend Olivia, and Susan Ross turns to David for advice. (via ABC)
Thanks for ABC, we’ve got two sneak peeks from the upcoming show, and let me tell you, these clips already have me FLAILY! In the first video, the White House and OPA are getting ready for the Congressional hearings, but Cyrus proposes a plan that could be their way out (*spoiler alert* WEDDING BELLS!)
In the second clip, Liv is conflicted about the decision to marry Fitz and asks Abby for her advice:

Olivia weighs her options with Abby in this #Scandal sneak peek. https://t.co/dynZfLUILV — Scandal (@ScandalABC) October 29, 2015
First, the potential for an Olitz/Fitzlivia wedding has me ALLLLLL up in my feels. Like my body literally can’t handle all my joyous emotions. But of course, Liv has her doubts. If Liv lies during the hearings, sure she could save Fitz’s presidency and avoid marriage (and losing her life to being First Lady). But it’s perjury!
What do you think about the options? I’d pick marriage, but that’s just me…
Check out 12+ images from “Get Out of Jail, Free” that give us a look at Liv testifying before Congress and all the strategizing to make it through this situation with the least amount of loss:
