In the aftermath of Jamie’s duel, he faces prison, while Claire’s life may be in danger. Get a sneak peek of this week’s Outlander (“Faith”), airing Saturday, May 21 at 9:00pm ET|PT on STARZ.

Sassenachs, how does everything that was so right go so, so wrong? At this point I’ve watched (and re-watched) “Best Laid Schemes…” four times and I’m still completely heartbroken.
The way “Untimely Resurrection” ended, with Claire asking Jamie to give Black Jack Randall a one-year grace period (for Frank’s sake) and Jamie very reluctantly agreeing, I didn’t know how they could move beyond this. But they did! Jamie revoked his challenge and BJR was freed from the Bastille. Even better, Claire and Jamie were on the same page. They had several intimate moments where they spoke of the baby… Jamie made Claire promise that if something ever happened to him, she would go back to Frank (wanting Claire to have a man who loved her and would take care of the baby). This was sad because we never want to think of Jamie and Claire apart, but still. They loved each other and cared enough for one another to make whatever sacrifices necessary.
Moreover, Operation Stop Culloden made a huge success when Jamie and Murtagh (with the help of hired highwaymen) were able to ransack the wine belonging to Le Comte St. Germain and Prince Charles. Now they were out of all that money, and Charles was persona non grata among French financiers.
But then Jamie and Fergus went to Maison Elise… and Black Jack Randall was at the brothel… and something happened between Fergus and BJR, something that would drive Jamie to break his promise to Claire and duel with Black Jack. Of course Claire went to the woods “to see which of [her] men would die, Jamie or Frank.”
And catastrophe struck from all angles—Jamie struck BJR in the groin, then the police arrived to arrest Jamie from breaking the King’s edict outlawing dueling, and something went really wrong with Claire’s pregnancy.
*SIGH* Where do we go from here? Where CAN we go from here? On the way to Bois de Boulogne, Claire was so hurt by Jamie breaking his promise. Can she forgive him? Can Jamie truly forgive Claire for putting Frank’s existence before him, even when it means letting BJR live? And what about the baby…?
Well, in this week’s Outlander, it seems we’ll start to get answers to these questions. In “Faith” (written Toni Graphia, directed by Metin Hüseyin):
Claire is brought to L’Hopital Des Anges where doctors try to save her life and that of her unborn baby. King Louis asks Claire to judge two men accused of practicing the dark arts – one an enemy, one a friend. (via STARZ)
This clip from the upcoming episode shows us that Jamie remains arrested for dueling and Claire has appealed to King Louis for Jamie’s release:
You know, Claire’s gratitude probably won’t be enough for Louis, and thinking about what he’ll ask for in exchange for Jamie’s freedom makes me very nervous.
What are you thinking???
