Starting Tuesday, March 14 at 10/9c, NBC brings us Trial & Error, a comedy “in the spirit of true-crime documentaries” and we ponder will this be a hit for the network.
When I got word that Steven Boyer, Broadway lead in Hand of God landed a network gig, I was immediately interested to see what the project entailed. Little did I know many of my favs: Jayma Mays, John Lithgow, and Sherri Shepherd would grace the small screen alongside him in NBC’s upcoming comedy Trial & Error.
Trial & Error, an “outrageous fish-out-of-water comedy” brings amazingly aloof characters, white privilege, crude humor wrapped up in a murder mystery to the small screen beginning Tuesday, March 14 at 10/9c. The show resolves around Josh Segal (Nicholas D’Agosto), a New York attorney who heads south to tackle his first big case – to defend Larry (not George) Henderson (John Lithgow) who’s been arrested for killing his wife. As Josh settles in town to tackle and hopefully win this trial, he interacts with a group of kooky characters: the legal assistant, Anne Flatch (Sherri Shepherd); the lead investigator, Dwayne (Steven Boyer); the side piece, Alfonso (Kevin Daniels); the daughter, Summer (Krysta Rodriguez); the prosecutor Carol Anne Keane (Jayma Mays); and many other off-the-wall individuals.
Trial and Error Pilot Synopsis:
When rollercizing poetry professor Larry Henderson (John Lithgow) is arrested for the brutal murder of his wife, bright-eyed lawyer Josh Segal (Nicholas D’Agosto) comes down from New York to the quirky town of East Peck, South Carolina to defend his first big case. After meeting his eccentric client and odd-ball team, Josh quickly realizes he’s in over his head. Jayma Mays, Sherri Shepherd, Steven Boyer and Krysta Rodriguez also star. (via NBC)
