Last Sunday’s season finale of The Walking Dead set the stage for all out war! Let’s take a look at “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life.”

As expected, the season finale of The Walking Dead was extremely intense and had a very interesting twist. We’re taking a look at the season finale, its effects on the group moving forward, and most importantly, Sasha and her self-sacrifice.
You can’t deny that The Walking Dead nailed its finale. There have been some slow parts this season and a constant drag of darkness, but this episode delivered a message of hope. Which is much needed going forward, especially considering that the much-anticipated “all-out-war” arc will be starting during season eight.
All of this hope centered around one decision, too. Sasha choosing to die. It’s such an important distinction to make regarding Sasha. Negan didn’t get the satisfaction of killing her or the opportunity to use her against the group. She maintained her autonomy while being held captive. She decided the rules for the trade and bartered with Negan for lives.
This episode showed Sasha at her strongest and most selfless.

There were also so many parallels this episode between Sasha and Abraham, Sasha and Hershel and Beth, and even a very clever tie-in at the end dealing with Hershel’s watch.
Be sure to take a look at our video recap for The Walking Dead finale below! If you’d like to skip to an Easter egg about Hershel’s watch at the end, you can start watching at 14:18.
We can’t wait for next season, and we’d love to hear your thoughts and theories on the finale! We hope you’ll be joining us for Season Eight of The Walking Dead, too!
The Walking Dead will return with Season Eight in October on AMC.
