Vikings returns to SDCC with several exciting opportunities for fans including: a cast panel, new Season 5 footage, and an actual Viking funeral! HISTORY will also debut their new Knights Templar series.

If you’re like me, the Vikings-withdrawal is strong right now. However, with HISTORY’s announcement about their plans for San Diego Comic-Con, I have high hopes that some goodies are soon to come our way!
Hit series Vikings is coming back to SDCC with several exciting opportunities for fans and we’ve got the details.
First, the Vikings panel will take place on Friday, July 21 from 5:45 p.m. – 6:45pm in Room 6BCF. Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), Gustaf Skarsgard (Floki), Alexander Ludwig(Bjorn), Alex Høgh Andersen (Ivar the Boneless) and creator Michael Hirst will be in attendance to talk about Season 5 and reveal an exclusive sneak peek. Hopefully this will feature more of our bae Jonathan Rhys Meyers! 😉
Also on Friday (July 21 from 7 pm – 8pm), HISTORY will host a bona fide Vikings funeral at Embarcadero Marina Park South (200 Marina Park Way). This will be a one-day event to honor Ragnar Lothbrok and other beloved characters who have recently risen toValhalla. The Vikings funeral begins with a procession throughout the Gaslamp Quarter (12pm – 5:45pm), before concluding with a waterfront ceremony at 7 p.m. featuring a floating 45-foot replica Viking long-ship set on fire (*EXCITE*).
Fans who attend the Vikings funeral will get an awesome drinking horn (I have mine from last year, and I love it!). Select bars will offer special drink discounts for horn holders, so make sure to follow @HistoryVikings for a complete list of participating locations.
Vikings will have a decked out booth on the convention floor (#4215). In “Warrior’s Allegiance”, a new generation of warriors is rising in the Vikings world and fans have the opportunity to be immersed in it by showing off their swordplay in a video booth. Fans will get into character by selecting their weapon of choice and dressing up in Viking gear. A time-slice camera array will capture footage of each fan demonstrating their best battle moves with Ragnar’s sons (Bjorn, Ivar the Boneless, Ubbe, Hvitserk). The video will be available for fans to share on social platforms.
Finally, while supplies last, a custom Vikings limited edition comic book from a story created by Michael Hirst will also be available to fans, exclusively for SDCC.
In addition to Vikings, HISTORY’s new scripted drama Knightfall will make its Comic-Con debut. The series centers on the elite and mysterious military order of the Knights Templar and stars Tom Cullen.
Before it premieres, fans will be able to enjoy the “Knightfall: Guardians of the Gear” activation (located along the MLK Promenade in the Gaslamp Quarter). The Holy Grail required protection of the Knights Templar, and SDCC attendees can count on that same protection for their own personal belongings by storing them in HISTORY’s “Knightfall: Guardians of the Gear.” Knights will guard attendees’ swag while they explore the rest of Comic-Con.
At the activation location, attendees will also get to take a photo with the Knights Templar, watch a sneak peek of HISTORY’s newest drama series “Knightfall” and preview the Knightfall: Rivals video game on Steam Platform™, coming soon on mobile. Attendees will also be able to pick up a Knightfall inspired comic book entitled “Truth & Lies” (a prequel to the events in the forthcoming series that follows the Knights during the siege of the Acre in 1291 as they try to protect the Holy Grail).
I can’t wait to have HISTORY take over Comic-Con! Will you be at SDCC this year? Share your thoughts in comments!
